Save room for dessert: A sweet treat shop is opening a new location in the Charlotte area
What else could a Fort Mill spot already promising new breakfast, lunch and dinner options need? Signs point to dessert.
Morelia Gourmet Paletas has put its name up on the wall in the Mills Crossing retail center. Morelia is a personalized treat experience specializing in paletas, or large ice pops.
Flavors include chocolate, caramel, cheesecake and brownie options to fruits and sorbets. Paletas are then dipped in and topped with a wide range of custom sweets.
Morelia has 16 locations in five states listed on its website. North Carolina has three, including one each in Charlotte and Huntersville. The site doesn’t yet list any South Carolina locations.
The ice cream pop shop won’t be alone. Mills Crossing is a 13,000-square-foot retail center under construction on S.C. 160 West. It’s between the Earth Fare shopping center and South State Bank, across the highway from the Brayden subdivision.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill and Biscuit Belly also announced plans to open there.
Firebirds plans to open Aug. 26. The restaurant has several Charlotte area sites that serve steaks, seafood and more entrees.
Biscuit Belly is a breakfast and brunch spot serving fried chicken, brisket and other unique biscuits along with “bonuts,” (biscuit donut holes), gravy trains and fried green tomatoes.
Clear Springs Development Co. lists all three new food spots in the coming Mills Crossing site, along with an Edible Arrangements and Fifth Third Bank branch. Edible will open this week, said Kerri Robusto with Clear Springs. Morelia and Biscuit Belly should open in September, followed by Fifth Third, she said.
