In Charlotte, hardly a week goes by without the announcement of a new restaurant. In 2024, that has been no exception, with a flood of new flavors making their way to the city.

Along with restaurants we knew were coming this year — including 3rd & Fernwood, Albertine, Taco Boy, Marina’s Tapas and many more — newcomers have been flooding on to the scene. Celebrity chef Bobby Flay’s Bobby’s Burgers has joined the Charlotte market, along with Catalu, Curry Junction and others.

3rd & Fernwood

Location: 1100 Metropolitan Ave., Suite 170

Chef Gregory Collier and Subrina Collier’s BayHaven Restaurant group has opened a new restaurant with a speakeasy called 3rd & Fernwood at Metropolitan Charlotte. The restaurant, focused on seasonal Southern food and farm-fresh produce, is located in the former Hickory Tavern spot.

19th at the Warehouses

Location: 130 W White St B, Rock Hill, SC 29730

At 19th at the Warehouses — Rock Hill’s first indoor golf venue — there are four golf simulators in the main dining area and two private rooms in the back for reservations. The menu features snacks including boiled peanuts, warm spinach dip and churros, plus signature sandwiches and flatbreads.

800° Woodfired Kitchen

Location: The Alley at Latta Arcade, 320 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202

Location: 2161 Hawkins St., Charlotte, NC 28203S

The team behind 800º has worked on opening two new locations in 2024. One opened June 3 at The Alley at Latta Arcade, and the other in South End is projected to open this winter. At both, you can expect to find its familiar wood-fired pizza, sandwiches, salads and more.

The Accidental Baker

Location: Metropolitan, 1100 Metropolitan Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204 (now closed)

Location: Sweet Spot Studio, 4418 Monroe Rd suite A/B, Charlotte, NC 28205 (opened in September)

The Accidental Baker opened at Metropolitan mid-March, bringing new options for sourdough breads and gluten-free baked goods to midtown Charlotte. That spot closed in early fall, but next you’ll find its cookies, banana breads, custom cakes and pies inside Sweet Spot Studio, Axios Charlotte reported.

Ace No. 3

Location: 101 S. Tryon St., Charlotte NC 28280

In December, Ace No. 3 announced a move into uptown Charlotte via Instagram, saying: “Uptown, here we come! We’re thrilled to announce that we are opening our fourth location right in the heart of Uptown Charlotte in Summer 2025!”

Albertine

Location: Duke Energy Plaza, 525 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202

Albertine, a new fine dining restaurant from chef Joe and Katy Kindred, is bringing contemporary Mediterranean and Southern inspired cuisine to uptown Charlotte’s Duke Energy Plaza. It opened its upscale space, featuring velvet chairs and a calming color palate, in late September.

Another Brewery

Location: Bainbridge NoDa at 2509 N. Davidson St.

Another Brewery opened at the very end of 2023 in a 4,000-square-foot space with a 500-square-foot patio. Its earliest brews in the works include a peach sour, a tropical double IPA and a stout.

Antagonist

Location: The Campbell, 2025 Cleveland Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203

The team behind Protagonist plans to offer a coffee-by-day and craft-cocktails-by-night experience when it opens at The Campbell in spring 2025, Charlotte Business Journal reports. Partnerships in the venture include Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters and Phi Hoang and Madison Phillips, alums of The Crunkleton and Puerta, CBJ said.

Azucar

Location: Ballantyne Village, 14825 Ballantyne Village Way, Suite A-150, Charlotte, NC 28277

Azucar, a Cuban restaurant in Huntersville, has opened a second location in Ballantyne. Look for a modern approach to Cuban cuisine includes paella and craft cocktails.

Babe Cave

Location: 3021 Bank Street Suite 100, Charlotte, North Carolina 28203

Babe Cave, which closed in 2022, is back. Look for cocktail and floral classes, along with elevated brunch and girl dinner offerings.

Bagel Bin & Deli

Location: Village at Byers Creek, Argus Lane, Mooresville 28117

Bagel Bin & Deli plans to open a second location in the Harris Teeter-anchored Village at Byers Creek shopping center at N.C. 150 and Perth Road in Mooresville, owner Alex Cook told CharlotteFive. Its Charlotte counterpart, Bagel Bin & Deli II — which was owned by the original Huntersville shop’s son, John Cadolino — closed in March.

Bambu Gastonia

Location: 1941 Hoffman Rd Suite A4, Gastonia, NC 28054

Bambu, a Vietnamese-inspired drink and dessert shop opened in April, with a grand opening in September. Boba teas, bubble waffles, smoothies and other snacks are on the menu at the shop.

Bar One Lounge

Location: 2161 Hawkins St., Charlotte, NC 28203S

Location: The Stuward, 222 S Church St, Charlotte, NC 28202

Bar One Lounge has worked on opening two new locations this year. In late summer, Bar One opened up at The Stuward, providing cocktails and a curated menu from 800º, plus late night eats and live entertainment on the weekends. When the South End location opens this winter, customers can expect the same look and feel of the flagship space, along with familiar menu items. (A Mooresville location was in the works, too, but that plan was later scrapped.)

Bartaco

Location: 16916 Birkdale Commons Pkwy., Huntersville, NC 28078

Bartaco opened its third location in North Carolina at Birkdale Village in February, offering fresh tacos, rice bowls and specialty drinks. The restaurant is located next to the Grove at the shopping center.

Bayt Almocha

Location: Centro NoDa, 715 E 36th St, Charlotte, NC 28205

Bayt Almocha, a Yemeni coffee shop offering a traditional Middle Eastern café experience, is coming to the Centro NoDa development when it opens in 2025.

Beef & Brine Steakhouse Tavern

Location: 305 McGill Ave, Concord, NC 28025

Beef & Brine opened in late October at the Gibson Mill campus in Concord, bringing a locally owned steakhouse to town. Steak and seafood options are on the menu, along with a kids menu and happy hour specials.

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks

Location: 8548 University City Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28213

Philadelphia native Derrick Hayes has brought his Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks franchise to Charlotte with. a May opening. The sandwiches feature beef, chicken and salmon cheesesteaks topped with things like onions, banana peppers, mushrooms and sweet peppers, stuffed in Amoroso’s rolls.

B&K Tea Cafe

Location: 14231 Market Square Dr, Unit C1, Huntersville, NC 28078

B&K Tea Cafe, a locally owned bubble tea chain that’s growing quickly, is poised to open its fourth location in Huntersville. When it opens, you’ll find a bonus in its lineup of boba and mochi — there will be ramen, too.

Biscuit Belly

Location: 1949 E 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204

Location: 2147 W. Highway 160 Suite 101 Fort Mill, SC 29708

Biscuit Belly, a Kentucky-based breakfast and brunch chain, is set to open six locations of the fast-casual restaurant. The Elizabeth neighborhood location opened on Aug. 27, and a Fort Mill, S.C., location opened later in the fall. Restaurants in Ballantyne, Concord, Huntersville, Park Road and Plaza Midwood are planned to follow next.

Bite Your Tongue Authentic New Orleans Cuisine

Location: 1121 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216

Bite Your Tongue Authentic New Orleans Cuisine opened in June in Charlotte’s Historic West End, offering takeout that’s packaged to go in a space that offers seating, too. Signature dishes at the restaurant include a fried shrimp po-boy and Seafood Gumbo LuLu that you can wash down with a half gallon of New Orleans Strango.

Blasian Asian Way

Location: Camp North End, 1801 N Graham St., Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28206

Food truck Blasian Asian Way brought its mix of Korean-American fusion to Camp North End in early September, taking over what is now the SARU Ramen food stall. Look for bulgogi dishes, wings and fried dumplings.

Blend Riverwalk

Location: 652 Herrons Ferry Road Suite 113, Rock Hill, SC 29730

Blend Riverwalk reopened in late June under new ownership, adding new breakfast options to its lineup of acai bowls, smoothies, sandwiches and salads.

Bliss & Blends

Location: 1811 Sardis Rd N, Suite 235, Charlotte, North Carolina 28270

Bliss & Blends, which pairs wine and charcuterie with a DJ and bingo, opened a brick-and-mortar location mid-September. Your ticket price includes a wine education session, too.

Blue Door

Location: 1508 S Mint St, Charlotte, NC 28203

Blue Door cocktail lounge — which is across from Trio and is being run by the same team — opened in September, Axios Charlotte reported. It takes over the space where Bardo closed temporarily, then never reopened.

Bobby’s Burgers

Location: Towers at SouthPark, 6000 Fairview Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210

One of the biggest stars of Food Network, Bobby Flay, opened a Bobby’s Burgers location early this summer in SouthPark. When you go, you’ll find a tightly edited selection of burgers, a veggie burger and a chicken sandwich, along with fries, onion rings and shakes.

Borderline Bar & Billiards

Location: The Pass, 530 E. Sugar Creek Rd. and 4100 and 4212 Raleigh St., Charlotte NC 28213

Borderline Bar & Billiards opened in early November as a “comfortable neighborhood bar” with social games and drinks. Owner Greg Guillorn is also behind The Degenerate.

Bossy Beluah’s

Location: 512 Brandywine Rd., Ste 500, Charlotte, NC 28209

Location: Bowl at Ballantyne, 15110 Bowl St., Suite 103, Charlotte, NC 28277

In addition to opening a new location at the Bowl at Ballantyne over the summer, fried chicken restaurant Bossy Beluah’s also took over the Park Road Shopping Center spot vacated by RockSalt when it closed in August.

North Italia and Flower Child, both by Sam Fox of Phoenix-based Fox Restaurant Concepts, opened at The Bowl at Ballantyne. Postino Wine Cafe opened, too. They joined previously announced tenants including Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen, Honeysuckle Gelato, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and Bossy Beulah’s. Later on in the fall, coffee shop Fly Kid Fly joined them.

Brooklyn Pickle

Location: Atrium Health’s Levine Center Institute, 1021 Morehead Medical Dr., Charlotte, NC 28204

Upstate New York staple Brooklyn Pickle, known for “giant, overstuffed” sandwiches and subs, is open in Charlotte. The sandwich shop opened July 1 inside the former Just Salad space inside Atrium Health’s Levine Center Institute.

Brother Pay Bahamian Delight

Location: 969 N Main St, Mooresville, NC 28115

Now open in Mooresville is Brother Pay Bahamian Delight, a Caribbean restaurant named for the owner’s grandfather’s habit of saying, “Brother pay,” when customers arrived at his register. The lineup of Bahamian food is accented with the family’s secret recipes and signature dishes, many focusing on seafood.

Cakeable Charlotte

Location: 401 North Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28202

Cakeable Cafe opened uptown April 20, offering special needs adults a place to get on-the-job training while providing sweet treats. While you’re there, pick up some Bear Food snack mix, created to provide job opportunities for adults with disabilities.

Calle Sol SouthPark

Location: 1300 Apex Drive Ste 140, Charlotte NC 28210

A second location of Calle Sol Latin Cafe & Cevicheria opened in Charlotte’s SouthPark area in late May next to Hyatt Centric SouthPark. It serves Peruvian and Cuban dishes such as chaufa and salichipapa in a colorful, playful atmosphere.

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop

Location: Park Road Shopping Center, 4323 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209

A third Capriotti’s sandwich shop in Charlotte opened in March and celebrated by giving away sandwiches to those who downloaded the Capriotti’s app.

Caribou Coffee

Location: 553 E. Plaza Drive, Mooresville NC 28115

After an absence of at least a decade-and-a-half, Caribou Coffee opened a Lake Norman-area store in July with plans for a second location. The location includes indoor and patio seating and a drive-thru. Breakfast sandwiches, bakery items and Caribou’s new iced beverages, Fruit Shakers and energy drinks are available.

Catalú

Location: 135 New Bern Street Retail A, Charlotte, NC 28209

Que Hospitality, the team behind Que Onda and Que Fresa, opened Catalú in April in the former Eight & Sand Kitchen space in South End. Look for traditional Catalonian cuisine with an innovative approach to Spanish tapas.

Cheat’s Cheesesteaks

Location: 2127 Hawkins St., Charlotte, N.C., 29203

Cheat’s Cheesesteaks openedup its second location in a South End space. Ryan Hart, operating partner and creative director for 1957 Hospitality Group, which owns Cheat’s, said: “South End was our original target location and where the name came from. … It’s right on the rail trail, so we thought we could offer a cheat day for runners along the track.”

Chick N Max

Location: Charlotte

Chick N Max is working on opening its first restaurant in the Charlotte area. The Kansas-based chicken chain is searching for franchisees, as well as partnering with a local investment group to find Charlotte locations, as well as targeting areas such as Kannapolis, Concord and Gastonia.

Chief’s

Location: 3024 N. Davidson St., Charlotte, NC 28205

Mixologist Bob Peters and the team behind The Goodyear House is opening a cocktail bar next door to the restaurant called Chief’s. The early 1900s mill house will be converted into a 50-seat, 1,800-square-foot space that will include bar and lounge seating, plus a small outdoor garden.

Chuyita’s Fresh Mexican Food & Bar

Location: 1727 Sardis Road North, Charlotte, NC 28270

A second restaurant from the restaurant team behind Taqueria Chuyita in Monroe is opening at Sardis and Monroe roads. A specific opening date has not yet been released for the new Chuyita’s Fresh Mexican Food & Bar.

The Club House

Location: 16715 Orchard Stone Run, Charlotte, NC 28277

The Club House opened in February, looking to bring an elevated neighborhood restaurant and bar vibe to Ballantyne. While you listen to a DJ and drink cocktails, nosh on cheesesteak eggrolls, zucchini sticks and ahi tuna nachos, or order a full meal from a menu of salads, burgers, steak and salmon.

Coffee Republic

Location: 500 W Trade St Suite #100, Charlotte, NC 28202

Location: 14825 Ballantyne Village Way, Charlotte, NC 28277

The Charlotte’s area’s newest Coffee Republic — which has several locations in the Lake Norman area — is set to open at the 500 West Trade development, Charlotte Business Journal reported. A Ballantyne location also opened.

Community Kitchen Café

Location: Inside Scott Clark Toyota, 13052 Marie Garris Dr. Matthews, North Carolina 28105

Location: Inside Scott Clark Honda, 7025 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28227

Community Kitchen Cafe, a partnership between Scott Clark car dealerships and the Community Leadership Academy’s Community Kitchen program, opened up two restaurants in May. They offer hot breakfast, pastries and lunch items such as burgers and sushi.

Cookie Plug

Location: 3216 South Blvd Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28209

Cookie Plug, known for “the fattest and thiccest” cookies, opened in South Charlotte in late March. The cookie shop features keto options, ice cream cookie sandwiches, custom cookie cakes and its infamous Purple Drank purple lemonade.

Copenhagen Wine & Beer Garden

Location: Merino Mill, 500 S. Main St., Mooresville, NC 28115

Copenhagen Wine & Beer Garden is anticipated to open at Merino Mill sometime soon. It will have international wines and craft beer, along with small plates.

Copperhead Social Club

Location: 2810 N Davidson St, Charlotte, NC 28205

Copperhead Social Club, a new venture from some of the team behind Pepperbox Doughnuts, has moved into the space where the doughnut shop’s NoDa location operated. It opened in early October with a menu of burgers and fries.

The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar

Location: 5965 Thunder Rd, Concord, NC 28027

Location: 816 Brayden Parkway, Fort Mill, SC 29708

Over-the-top dessert spot The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar settled into a new location in Concord and opened in early January. Franchisees Monika and Aaron Leach are operating the second location in North Carolina of the brand known for indulgences that pile toppings high on Mason jars stuffed with ice cream. A second location is on the way in Fort Mill.

The Crust Pizza

Location: 10710 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277

A second location of The Crust Pizza opened at Promenade on Providence in early 2024. The pizzeria offers hand-made, flaky crusts with edge-to-edge toppings, along with salads and oven-baked subs.

Curry Gate

Location: 1240 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd, Matthews, NC 28105

Curry Gate is opening a fourth location in Matthews, taking over the space where Nora’s Kitchen once operated. Curry Gate is known for its flavorful Indian dishes including Tikka Masala, Tandoor Chicken and curry — with spice levels listed at 1-10 for your customization when ordering. Nepalese food on the menu includes momo and its Curry Gate Special Biryiani, a dum biryani with Chicken 65 served on top.

Curry Junction

Location: The Arboretum, 8200 Providence Rd suite 800, Charlotte, NC 28277

A new Indian restaurant in Charlotte took over the space vacated by Akropolis Cafe and opened mid-spring. At Curry Junction, the Indian and Nepalese menu includes traditional curry dishes, plus tandoori-style cuisine paired with freshly baked naan.

Dank Burrito

Location: 343 Technology Center Way, Rock Hill, SC 29730

Dank Burrito set up shop to sell burritos, tacos, bowls and salads when it opened Feb. 8. The 3,300-square-foot Rock Hill location also offers craft beers, wine, canned beer and seltzers.

Dave’s Hot Chicken

Location: 2476 Cherry Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29730

A new Charlotte-area location of Dave’s Hot Chicken opened in Rock Hill in mid-October. The chain that focuses on hot chicken and burgers has settled in to the former Jasmine Grill location.

Desi District

Location: Parkway Crossing, 11812 Carolina Pl Pkwy, Pineville, NC 28134

Indian grocer and restaurant Desi District has moved into the Charlotte area and is now open. You can pick up vegetarian appetizers like gobi manchuria — marinated cauliflower deep-fried and tossed in a spicy sauce — and entrees including kebabs, chicken tikka, curries, biryanis and Indo-Chinese meals.

Dilworth Tasting Room

Location: 1413 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205

Wine bar and cocktail lounge Dilworth Tasting Room opened a third Charlotte location in Plaza Midwood in mid-August. Expect a space that fits with the neighborhood, along with a garden patio to complement the global cuisine.

Dogwood: A Southern Table

Location: The Westin Charlotte, 601 S College St, Charlotte, NC 28202

Dogwood: A Southern Table closed and said goodbye to its SouthPark restaurant space in 2023, but it’s on the way back. The Southern restaurant known for fresh produce and creative cocktails will be reopening in January at The Westin Charlotte as part of its remodeling plans.

Donut I Love You

Location: 908 E 35th St., Charlotte, NC 28205

Donut I Love You is moving into the small, NoDa neighborhood space that used to be NoDa Yoga. After renovations on the brick-and-mortar space, it will sell the same gluten-free doughnuts with fruit, whipped cream and other toppings that gained its food truck following.

Dos Caminos

Location: 601 S. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC

New York-based Mexican restaurant Dos Caminos opened its first North Carolina location on the ground floor of Ally Charlotte Center in May. Expect nachos and ceviche; tacos on handmade tortillas and more.

Eggspectation

Location: Ballantyne Village, 14815 Ballantyne Village Way Ste 150-160, Charlotte, NC 28277

A Charlotte location of the Eggspectation chain opened in early 2024 in Ballantyne Village. Look for upscale brunch items such as Lamb and Eggs, a duck confit benedict called Bene-ducked and Grand Marnier French Toast Flambee.

Eggs Up Grill

Location: Multiple

Eggs Up Grill, a South Carolina-based breakfast and lunch restaurant you’ll find in Gastonia, Lake Norman and Fort Mill, will be opening six new locations around the area. Exact spots aren’t set yet, but the first is targeted to open in Monroe.

Eighty Eights Coffee + Cocktails

Location: 4237 Raleigh St., Charlotte, NC 28213

Eighty Eights Coffee & Cocktails opened Sept. 27 as a coffee shop by day and a jazz bar by night. The space beside the Independent Picture House near NoDa in Charlotte offers cocktails, wine and beer, plus charcuterie and cheese plates.

Eggroll Company

Location: Camp North End, 1801 N Graham St., Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28206

Eggroll Company, which got its start as a food truck, is joining Camp North End’s food stalls this fall. Founded by Daphne Alexander, the restaurant concept fries up half-pound eggrolls that you can share as an appetizer or eat as a main course or dessert.

Elk Ave Tavern

Location: 125 Elk Ave., Rock Hill SC, 29730

The team behind food truck Cibi! Cibi! launched its first brick-and-mortar location, Elk Ave Tavern in Rock Hill. Owners Anthony Legatie and Hunter Newton promise a “casual neighborhood spot for locals.”

El Malo Tacos and Hermanita

Location: 1705 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205

El Malo Tacos, a “little brother” concept to Mal Pan, has opened alongside bar concept Hermanita. The restaurant is serving birria, Cali burritos, quesadillas, nachos and California style fries in Plaza Midwood.

Emilio’s Pizza Kitchen

Location: 5527 Arden Mill Dr #101, Fort Mill, SC 29715

New York transplants Megan and Ray Cariseo opened Emilio’s Pizza Kitchen in Fort Mill in April. Expect pizza, Buffalo wings, and five different types of salad, with pasta, meatball subs and starters adding onto the menu over time.

Empire Pizza

Location: 8500 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC 28226

Location: 343 Technology Center Way, Rock Hill SC, 29730 (opening late 2024)

Empire Pizza, a South Carolina-based chain with restaurants in York County and Mint Hill, expanded into South Charlotte with a July opening. The pizzeria is located in the space that most recently held the short-lived Loretta’s Restaurant and previously housed Bailey’s Sports Bar and Fox & Hound. Another new location is set to open in Rock Hill by the end of the year.

Enzo’s Italian Market

Location: 130 Matthews Station St, Matthews, NC 28105

A new, larger location on Enzo’s Italian Market is set to open in downtown Matthews. When the Matthews Station space opens, you can expect a New York-style experience with fresh pasta and mozzarella, gelato and espresso stations, a full bakery and an osteria.

ESO Artisanal Pasta

Location: Optimist Hall, 1115 N Brevard St, Charlotte, NC 28206

Fresh pasta and sauce, arancini and polpette will arrive soon at Optimist Hall. ESO Artisinal Pasta — which you may know from “The Great Food Truck Race” — will move into the space next to Schreiber’s on Rye and Zukku Sushi at the food hall.

The Everyday Market

Location: 3541 Dewitt St., Charlotte, NC 28217

European-inspired The Everyday Market, which got its start in Belmont, opened a Lower South End coffee and sandwich shop in May. You can stop in for wine or beer, coffee or a sweet treat.

The Fifth Fork

Location: The Ritz-Carlton, 201 E Trade St, Charlotte, NC 28202

The Ritz-Carlton started off 2024 with the launch of a new Southern dining spot, The Fifth Fork. The lobby level location was formerly home to BLT Steak, which permanently closed at the end of 2023 after nearly 15 years.

Fin & Fino

Location: Birkdale Village, 8630 Lindholm Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078

The second location of Fin & Fino, a Rare Roots Hospitality restaurant opened Feb. 28 in the former Dressler’s Restaurant spot at Birkdale Village in Lake Norman. You can expect a similar experience with small plates and fresh seafood that you would at the flagship restaurant in uptown Charlotte.

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill

Celebrity chef David Burke’s newest Charlotte-area concept, G.O.A.T. Pizza, opened April 27. You’ll find family friendly pizza and smash burgers, along with a variety of apps, pasta and dessert. The decor is just as much of a draw, with sports memorabilia including signed jerseys, helmets and other items from famous players spanning decades.

Godfather’s Pizza

Gravity Sourdough Pizza Co.

Restaurant X Bistro in Davidson rebranded to Habibi Lebanon in early March, but regular customers were somewhat familiar with the new menu — and the ownership remained the same. Executive chef and owner Nazira Atmé shifted her longtime eatery to focus on dishes of her Lebanese heritage, including traditional stews, Lebanese pies and shawarma.

The Habit Burger Grill

Chain restaurant The Habit Burger Grill, known for its cooked-to-order chargrilled burgers, opened in Denver’s Catawba Springs Promenade shopping center in February. The move poses direct competition to another flame-grilled competitor, Burger King, situated nearby.

Halal Eats

Halal Eats, which opened mid-June, will offer Uzbek-Tajik cuisine cooked in a tandoor oven. The menu includes Plov, a hearty rice dish made with meat, vegetables and spices; and Achichuk salad, a traditional Uzbek dish that includes tomatoes, onions, herbs and seasonings.

Harlem Nights

Harlem Nights has moved into a former Wild Wings Cafe space and opened a restaurant filled with Harlem Renaissance-themed decor, black and gold accents and photos of iconic Black Hollywood stars adoring the walls. Hawthorne’s New York Pizza and Bar

Hawthorne’s New York Pizza and Bar has made its way to South End, opening a 10th location in June in the space formerly home to Early Girl Eatery. You can expect to see the same lineup of pizza, pasta and cocktails you’re familiar with.

Hilltop Coffee

Hilltop Coffee, now operating as Washington, D.C.-based mobile coffee brand, is opening its first brick-and-mortar location in Charlotte. Owners Joy Shiver and Rashad Hart opened their shop in the Mallard Creek area.

Hip-Hop Smoothies opened a Camp North End location in September, expanding to a third space. You will see the same lineup of hip-hop named smoothies and acai bowls in its Airstream trailer on the adaptive reuse campus.

Hot Dog Depot

A new Hot Dog Depot shop opened this fall at 106 Clebourne St. in downtown Fort Mill. The Rock Hill-based restaurant’s menu features hot dogs, sandwiches and burgers.

The Imperial Treasure

The Imperial Treasure opened in early October, bringing dim sum, roasted Beijing duck and other authentic Chinese cuisine to the Charlotte area. It’s aiming for a date-night vibe suitable for special occasions, and a second location is already in the works for Ballantyne. (That restaurant may go by another name, however.)

The Improper Pig

The Charlotte area’s third location of the Improper Pig will be taking over the space formerly occupied by The Pizza Peel & Tap Room in Plaza Midwood. No timeline for the opening was given, although the Pizza Peel shut down Saturday, May 11.

International Truck of Tacos

Jeff’s Bagel Run set up shop in Blakeney Town Center in November the space formerly home to SAS Cupcakes, which closed in June due to the cost of rent and the rising costs of goods. Jekyll & Hyde Taphouse & Grill

Kairu Sushi and Noodle Bar

Krazy Curry

The team behind Yunta Nikkei and Viva Chicken are opening La Lima this fall in the space that once held Carrabba’s, Charlotte Business Journal reported. The Peruvian cafe will be a fast-casual concept with slow-roasted meats and sandwiches.

The Loft at Duckworth’s

Charlotte restaurateur Rob Duckworth opened The Loft at Duckworth’s above Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse in late January. “The focus is on classic cocktail recipes,” Duckworth told the Charlotte Observer. “Craft cocktails take time to make, and it’s a lot to learn.” The menu includes classic drinks like Tom Collins, Bee’s Knees and Rob Roy, for example.

Lost Worlds Beer

Lake Norman brewery Lost Worlds Beer expanded to Charlotte on April 13 with a space at Metropolitan. “The Metropolitan was the perfect location for our new taproom because of its greenway access,” Dave Hamme, founder of Lost Worlds, said on its website. “We’ve always encouraged our guests to ‘Find Their Adventure.’ With this location, we’re able to provide an oasis for travelers along the Sugar Creek Greenway, which also serves as an on-ramp for hiking, cycling and run clubs.”

Lottie’s Cafe

Lottie’s Cafe opened early this summer in Queen City Quarter. You can expect coffee, of course, along with small bites from the Black-owned restaurant.

MaBí Concina Tropical

MaBi Concina Tropical opened mid-August in the former Figo36 space in NoDa. The Dominican restaurant — from the minds behind Sabor at Raydal Hospitality — showcases traditional foods including charcoal chicken and ropa vieja, paired with tropical fruit-flavored beverages.

Maiz, Agua, Sal

A Mexican tortilleria from the team behind Craft Growler Shop and Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails settled into to the Lower Tuck adaptive reuse development. Maíz Agua Sal — Corn, Water, Salt in English — is now open and will be called MAS for short. (It’s an additional word cute: It means “more” in Spanish.)

Mama’s Pizza Express

Despite earlier plans to retire Frank Manis labored right along with a couple of construction workers as he prepared to open his fourth Lake Norman-area Mama’s Pizza Express. His managers keep wanting him to expand his popular pizzeria he told CharlotteFive at the Brawley School Road peninsula in Mooresville before the late September opening.

Maneki

Location: 320 South Tryon St., Charlotte

James Beard Award finalist chef Sam Hart is opening a Japanese robatayaki food stall called Maneki. The late-night restaurant is slated to open in uptown in the former Latta Arcade, now The Alley. It will serve traditional Japanese grilled skewers with a variety of dipping sauces.

Mano Bella

Mano Bella Artisan Foods expanded from its Market at 7th Street location to SouthPark in early 2024. Marchellos Neighborhood Italian

Middle James Brewing Company’s newest location opened in May in the space where The Dreamchaser’s Brewery was previously located. The brewery, which also recently expanded to Rock Hill, originally opened its doors about five years ago in Pineville.

Mike’s Vegan Grill

Mike’s Vegan Grill opened in late January in the University City area, offering a new option for plant-based eating. Milo’s Burger Joint

Milo’s Burger Joint, named after the owners’ French bulldog, opened in June at The Power House food hall in Rock Hill. Along with burgers, it serves up wings, fries and poke bowls.

Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill

Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill is working on a new location at a 2.2-acre site that most recently housed the temporary seasonal location of Josh’s Farmers Market. The property is beside the Harris Teeter-anchored Morrison Plantation mixed-use community.

Moo & Brew

Moo & Brew’s second location in Matthews had been in the works for quite some time, but it finally opened Jan. 29. When you go, take a chance on the Peter Piper, a flavor bomb that incorporates the Jalapeno Bacon Firecrackers from the appetizer menu, along with Pepper Jack cheese, house-pickled jalapenos and diablo mayo.

Muddy River Distillery

Muddy River Distillery opened a new Mount Holly facility in late June, after two years of refurbishing a late 19th century building. that was once a cotton mill. When you visit, you can try a cocktail made with one of its rums at the bar, or on a patio overlooking Dutchman’s Creek.

Naf Naf Middle Eastern Grill

The first Naf Naf Middle Eastern Grill in North Carolina opened this spring. The restaurant that serves up pitas, bowls and salads will be the second in the Charlotte area, as a location in Fort Mill, SC, opened up in 2022.

Nana Li’s by The Dumpling Lady

Inside The Ally at Latta Arcade, The Dumpling Lady opened spinoff Nana Li’s in mid-October. The restaurant offers classic Sichuan Chinese dishes and dim sum, boxed up “in healthy portions” for quick service.

Nana Morrison’s Soul Food

Nana Morrison’s third Charlotte-area location will open in Indian Land early next year. The menu includes fried fish, pork chops and chicken, and over a dozen sides.

Napa Bistro & Wine Bar

Location: Birkdale Place, Huntersville

A new location of the Napa on Providence and Napa Kingsley concept — Napa Bistro & Wine Bar — opened Nov. 25 at StoneCrest at Piper Glen in the former Cantina 1511 space. Another new Napa location is expected to come along afterward at the Birkdale Place development under construction in Lake Norman, Charlotte Business Journal reported.

Newk’s Eatery

Mississippi-based fast-casual chain Newk’s Eatery plans to open up to 30 stores across the state, and about 10 in the Charlotte area, CEO Frank Paci told The Charlotte Observer. Two previous restaurants in Charlotte and one in Rock Hill all closed in 2019.

New York Butcher Shoppe & Wine Bar

The restaurant churning out deliveries and takeout orders of what owner Nicole Peterkin calls “urban soul food” through a walkup window at the City West Commons shopping center.

Noche Bruta

Noche Bruta opened in March for dinner service on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays inside HEX Coffee, Kitchen and Natural Wines at Camp North End. The Mexican restaurant will be led by chef Hector Gonzalez-Mora, who will be crafting house-made chips and dips, ribeye tacos and churros with dulce de leche.

North Italia

North Italia, which opened a South End location in 2019 and has another on the way in Ballantyne, is taking over the former Fox and Hound space in Birkdale Village, Charlotte Business Journal reported. The restaurant offers handmade pasta and pizza, plus weekend brunch.

Orosoko Sound Bar

Orosoko Sound Bar opened in late March, offering cocktails and shareable plates what it calls “Latin | Asian inspired anti-fusion” in a setting built for sounds.

Oshen

Oshen, a sushi restaurant, opened at Colony Place shopping center on Oct. 29. The new concept from the team behind Yunta and La Lima will also offer hibachi and non-seafood options.

Pachecos Tortilleria & Grill

Rosalva “Rosi” Holder and her husband, Yoube, named their new Pachecos Tortilleria & Grill in memory of her mom. The restaurant uses her mom’s recipes and natural herbs and spices to recreate her southern Mexican cuisine.

The Palace

The Palace on 4th, a new upscale cocktail bar and lounge, opened in the former Green’s Lunch location in May. It serves craft cocktails and specialty hookah flavors.

Palmetto & Pine

Firethorne Country Club rebranded in December to Country Club of the Carolinas at Firethorne, and among the changes was a new focus on fine dining with its new Palmetto & Pine restaurant. It’s for members and guests only, but the level of cocktails and food quality rival other top restaurants in Charlotte, with entrees including Herb Rack of Lamb, Pan-Seared NC Rainbow Trout and Slow Braised Short Rib.

Paloma

Location: 279 Williamson Rd G, Mooresville, NC 28117

Paloma, a new concept from the owners behind several of Lake Norman’s Latin restaurants, is in the works in Mooresville. Look for small bites and craft cocktails when it opens in early 2024 in the Williamson Road space formerly occupied Sabor Latin Grill.

Panko

Panko, a new Peruvian fusion restaurant, plans a winter opening in NoDa, Axios Charlotte reported. Chef Gustavo Muñoz from Peru is planning authentic menu of Peruvian and Nikkei favorites, the restaurant team said via Instagram.

Paris Baguette

Paris Banh Mi

A location of Paris Banh Mi, a Vietnamese food chain rapidly spreading across the country, brought its banh mi sandwiches to Charlotte with a late August opening. The restaurant and bakery offers banh mi flavors such as grilled pork and pate on traditional French baguettes, croissants or brioche burger buns. Pastries and other baked goods are available, too.

PASUTA

Food stall PASUTA in Urban District Market opened this year, serving fusion pasta dishes including soy butter past with nori and black bean bolognese, along with fresh pasta options to take home and cook later.

The Pauline Tea-Bar Apothecary

The Pauline Tea-Bar Apothecary opened a second location in January. The space named after owner Sherry Waters’ grandmother features local artwork and includes a tea tasting room for gatherings.

The People’s Market

Two new locations of The People’s Market are slated to open soon. Coming to The Station at LoSo, a new 5,000-square-foot location of The People’s Market will serve a variety of scratch-made food available all day, including breakfast, artisan sandwiches and wraps, pizza, salads, smash burgers, pastries and vegan bites, along with a full bar with craft beer, cocktails and more. Fans can expect a similar experience when the new Myers Park location opens, as well.

Picasso

Taqueria Picasso opened in February 2024 with signature tacos and other dishes with Mexican and Mediterranean flavors. It offers long tables and benches and an open kitchen where you can see food being prepared.

PIE.ZAA is expanding from Asheville with a second location now open in South End. The New York-style pizzeria also offers oversized cookies to pair with your pie.

Pisco Gastrolounge

Pisco Gastrolounge opened in the former Roxbury space earlier this year, offering a dance club-meets-dinner space with Peruvian food. Sashimi, ceviche, saltado and chaufa are all on the menu, and you can pair up the dishes with a cocktail before dancing the night away.

Pollo Campero

Pollo Campero’s first-ever South Carolina location opened April 30. The Guatemalan fast-food chain sells fried chicken and grilled chicken, plus chicken sandwiches, empanadas, bowls, salads and nuggets with a host of traditional sides and desserts.

Portofino’s

The popular Italian restaurant Portofino’s fifth location in Charlotte will open on the ground level of the recently renovated One Independence Center in mid-2024. The restaurant will serve its pizza, pastas and sandwiches in the 2,500-square-foot restaurant, with both dine in and grab-and-go service. It will sit nearby Monarch Market, an 18,000-square-foot food hall within One Independence Center.

Prime Fish Cellar

Prime Fish Cellar, a bottle shop and gourmet food store from the team behind Prime Fish, opened in February. While you’re there, expect to browse high-end wines, Japanese sake, caviar and gourmet chocolates, or order sushi for lunch.

Qahwah House

Yemeni coffee shop Qahwah House opened Thursday, Dec. 19 in Plaza Midwood. The coffee is roasted on site, and it offers sweet and savory treats such as Khaliat Al Nahl, a Yemeni dessert made with butter- and cheese-filled rolls topped with honey.

Q’s Culinary Cart

Q’s Culinary Cart — known for its specialty hot dogs and sandwiches with creative topping combinations — has opened a storefront restaurant. It started serving its classic bites with a soft opening on Friday, Aug. 2.

The Reggae Lounge

The Reggae Lounge planned to open in December 2023 but opened mid-February. “It will have a real Caribbean theme,” Elvado Laing, a native of the Bahamas, told the Charlotte Observer. “When you walk in, you’re going to feel like you’re not even in Charlotte. One thing they are going to get is authenticity.”

Ricko’s Churros

Rio 150

Rio 150 — known for having the biggest margarita in Lake Norman — opened a new location in downtown Mooresville’s Mill One development. Before the year was out, the restaurant that got its start on River Highway announced a third location would open in Concord.

Rise Cafe

A second location of family-owned Rise Cafe opened in late July in the space where Trackside Restaurant operated for 32 years. Now, both Rise Cafe locations are preparing fresh meals daily with a focus on breakfast and lunch.

Royal Bliss Brewing

Plans call for Royal Bliss Brewing’s second location — slated for late 2025 — to feature a microbrewery, restaurant and an outdoor beer garden, plus a musical stage. The 10,000-square-foot brewery will land near Lake Norman in Cornelius, town planning documents show.

RSVP opened in January as a four-space nightclub with separate menus at its rooftop, stage, veranda and parlor. By spring, it switched its business model to become an event space and in June, it was slated as the new home to The Scorpio.

Roz Grill is bringing modern Mediterranean food with “traditional tastes” to The Arboretum, where it opened in June. You’ll Middle Eastern and Greek staples on the menu, including halal kebabs.

Sabores Bakery

Sabores Bakery, a mom-and-daughter team operating out of a vintage trailer, opened in May in Cornelius. The grab-and-go spot offers sweet rolls, cachitos, baguettes and a coveted blueberry cinnamon roll, plus sandwiches.

Salata Salad Kitchen

Salted Melon expanded to a second location mid-August, taking over the space where Hubee D’s was operating. You can expect the same lineup as the South End location, which also features all-day breakfast.

Seaboard Brewing LoSo

Chef Jonathan Cox will open Seaboy Restaurant and Bar soon in the Lake Norman community of Cornelius. He previously led kitchens at Dogwood, Fin & Fino and Chapter 6 for Rare Roots Hospitality.

Seemingly Overzealous

Dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream shop Seemingly Overzealous added a second shop in the Plaza Midwood space that once housed Cold Hearted Gelato. The owners are expanding offerings including flights and baked goods at the shop.

Sen Mee Noodle House

A new restaurant is taking the place of Sosu, promising Thai food and other Southeast Asian cuisine. It opened mid-August with a lineup of spring rolls, wontons and other small bites, plus noodle and rice dishes.

Scooter’s Coffee

Scooter’s Coffee, a coffee chain based in Omaha, Nebraska, has brought its signature Caramelicious drink, espresso beverages and fruit smoothies to Lake Norman. The coffee shop has announced other expansions throughout the South, too.

The Scorpio

The Scorpio, which closed its Freedom Drive location due to new development plans in the area, has since reopened in the space formerly home to RSVP South End.

Shake Shack

The newest Charlotte location of chain favorite Shake Shack will be making its debut in 2025 at the entrance of Charlotte Premium Outlets beside Saks Off 5th. The location will offer its classic made-to-order burgers, crispy chicken, hand-spun milkshakes, house-made lemonades, beer, wine and more.

Shipley Do-Nuts

Location: Concord

Three locations of Shipley Do-Nuts are set to open in the Charlotte area, with the first one heading to Concord. The Texas-based chain founded in 1936 sells more than 60 varieties of doughnuts, along with Texas-style kolaches filled with meat and cheese.

Siano’s Pizza & Pasta

Location: 5305 Waxhaw-Marvin Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173

Siano’s Pizza & Pasta is planning a winter opening in Waxhaw, bringing flavorful items such as a BBQ Chicken Pizza Pie and a Nutella dessert pizza.

Slutty Vegan

Location: Charlotte

The details are largely up in the air, but the popular pop-up option that started out as an Atlanta food truck plans to open a new location. “Charlotte has always supported us since day one and every single time that we come, there is a line down the block,” owner Pinky Cole told CharlotteFive in June.

Cole told the Washington Post that she searches for areas that are food insecure, lacking in vegan options and generally not attractive to developers. Later in the year, the company teased plans for a residency.

Smalls Sliders

Location: Charlotte area

Smalls Sliders, which offers simple menu focused on made-to-order cheeseburger sliders, plans to open 12 Charlotte area stores over the next six years. The first is expected to open in late 2025, with potential sites are Charlotte, Matthews, Pineville, Huntersville, Indian Trail, Monroe, Gastonia, Concord, Hickory and Salisbury, as well as Rock Hill.

The Smoke Pit Restaurant

The Smoke Pit Restaurant is taking over a former Sonny’s BBQ location in Lake Norman. Look for the barbecue restaurant to open by the end of 2024 or early 2025, bringing along its hickory-smoked meats plus mac and cheese, fried okra and collards.

Smooth Monkey

Location: Strawberry Hill at Fairview and Providence roads

Smoothie shop Smooth Monkey joined the Strawberry Hill Shopping Center in a 1,298-square-foot space in January, becoming the locally owned brand’s second store in Charlotte. The original location, located on Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza Midwood, opened in 2019.

Sneak

Location: Pecan Point, 2001 East 7th Street STE F, Charlotte, NC 28204

Cocktail lounge Sneak is opened in early April, bringing handcrafted drinks and promising an intimate, yet relaxed, setting.

Soul Gastrolounge

Location: 4100 Raleigh St, Charlotte, NC 28206

The well-loved small plates restaurant Soul Gastrolounge, which closed amid rising rents in Plaza Midwood, has plans to reopen in the new mixed-use development The Pass. In the meantime, it’s still cranking out a variety of skewers and its pork belly tacos while operating as a food truck.

Space Hot Pot

Space Hot Pot will be jumping into the growing Charlotte hot pot scene with a location at Rea Farms. It will sit across from Harris Teeter at the South Charlotte shopping center.

Spaghett

Spaghett, a craft pasta and cocktail restaurant from acclaimed chef Sam Hart, will open in the former Poplar space in uptown Charlotte’s 4th Ward in early 2025.

Speckled Pear

Location: 110 Clebourne St, Unit 102, Fort Mill, South Carolina 29715

Speckled Pear, specialty market with scratch-made prepared food and take-home dinner options, is now open in downtown Fort Mill. The shop has taken over the former Good Life Organic Kitchen space.

Sun’s Kitchen

Sun’s Kitchen moved from The City Kitch into a modern South End space with a dining room filled with natural light. The restaurant overlooking the light rail offers Asian street food including dim sum, dumplings, Chinese noodle dishes and more.

Sushi Hana

Sushi Hana opened its newest location in Ballantyne in the former Walnut Grill location. The all-you-can eat sushi concept where you can get a cocktail and order other Japanese specialties comes from the team that once owned Blacow Burgers.

Sweetgreen

West Coast chain Sweetgreen signed a lease with Crescent Communities for a 2,900-square-foot space at One Independence Center and is now open. Charlotte is ideal for Sweetgreen’s expansion because of its “great food culture, banking business hubs and a growing metro city,” Stephanie Traut, senior vice president of operations for Sweetgreen, told The Charlotte Observer in an exclusive interview.

Taco Boy

Charleston-area favorite Taco Boy, which makes all of its Mexican-inspired cuisine from scratch, opened Jan. 30 at the Station at LoSo. Make sure to try the freshly made guacamole — it’s extra creamy. And enjoy the tunes from the DJ booth while you nosh on a jackfruit taco or crab and shrimp quesadilla.

Tacos 4 Life

Fast-casual Tacos 4 LIfe is opening two new Charlotte-area locations, with one in Mooresville opening Oct. 1. An opening date for its Dilworth location hasn’t yet been announced.

Taipai Express

Taipai Express is expanding to a second location in 2025. The Chinese restaurant will be situated at the Red Stone development near the new Nana Morrison’s restaurant.

Talkin’ Tacos

Location: 8915 Christenbury Pkwy., Concord NC 28027

Talkin’ Tacos, which started out a Miami food truck, moved into the Carolinas in October with a restaurant space in Concord. Order by kiosk and savor a variety of tacos, including birria, Southwest Chicken, Mahi Mahi, Caribbean Carne and vegan Hongas Tacos.

Taste Lounge

Taste Lounge, a new spot connected to Another Brewery from the same owners, opened in late June. The lounge offers food and cocktails, along with live music and hookah.

Tega Cay Coffee Co.

Tega Cay Coffee Co., which started in 2020 as a coffee cart, has opened a brick-and-mortar location in Tega Cay in late May where Cinnaholic was briefly open. Look for coffee and pastries, along with breakfast burritos.

Tikka Shack

Rock Hill got an Indian restaurant when Tikka Shack opened in October in the former Nature’s Table space, near Sam’s Club and Academy Sports. It’s the second Tikka Shack in the Carolinas; the first opened in uptown Charlotte in fall 2022.

Tima African Restaurant

Tima African Restaurant opened in March, serving African cuisine including red and white joffoff rice, peanut butter stew and dibi Sengalese.

Tipsy Pickle

Tipsy Pickle, an entertainment complex with six pickleball courts, three bars and a Tex-Mex style menu, is heading to Camp North End. Along with four indoor and two outdoor pickleball courts at the 35,000-square-foot athleisure destination, Tipsy Pickle will have golf simulators, ping pong, pool tables, shuffleboard, cornhole and darts. The space will offer indoor and outdoor bars on the main level, and a mezzanine level cocktail lounge.

Toastique

Location: Vantage South End, 1120 S Tryon St. Suite 150

“All day micro cafe” Toastique, specializing in artisan toast and juices, opened at Vantage South End at the end of July. It will serve breakfast and lunch items, along with chocolate and vanilla vegan soft serve.

Toppers Pizza

Toppers Pizza announced the Dec. 12 opening of another Charlotte location as part of a significant expansion into North Carolina. The new Charlotte area restaurant will be the first of nine new outlets across the state.

Topsail Steamer

Fig Tree owners Sara and Greg Zanitsch opened a Topsail Steamer location, offering take home steam-and-eat seafood boils. Unpretentious Palate reported that the Zanitsches liked the concept so much when they encountered it on a Florida vacation that it spurred them to bring the franchise’s first non-beach location to Charlotte.

True Food Kitchen

Full-service restaurant and bar True Food Kitchen is opening in early 2025 at Linea South End, a new mixed-use residential tower on Hawkins Street. This new space will have both outdoor and indoor seating options that customers can enjoy along with True Food Kitchen’s focus on nutrient-dense staples and superfoods.

Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar

Asheville-based Tupelo Honey will open its newest location in Christenbury Village in Concord. The restaurant will have a 5,779-square-foot space with a patio, according to developer MVP.

Two Buck Saloon

On the heels of opening a second location in East Charlotte near Mint Hill in November 2023, Two Buck Saloon expanded once again. The casual bar known for its $2 beer selection and its famous Buck Shot opened in late March in downtown Pineville.

Two Scoops Creamery

Two Scoops Creamery, a local ice cream shop that has expanded to reach six shops, including two in South Carolina, will open its seventh and newest location in downtown Concord.

Tyber Creek Pub

Tyber Creek Pub closed down its home of 25 years due to new development in South End, but has plans to move In a few months. Tyber Creek’s new digs will be at 1501 S. Mint Street — formerly home to 1501 South Mint bar, which closed in January.

Uchi

Location: Pecan Avenue and Central Avenue in Charlotte

Uchi, a sushi-focused concept founded by James Beard award-winning chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, is opening in Charlotte in late 2025. It will be the first North Carolina location of the Japanese restaurant, which originally opened in Texas.

Vampire Penguin

Location: 212 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, SC

Vampire Penguin is expected to open a location of its dessert franchise in downtown Rock Hill at the end of this summer. Look for flavors like Mexican Candy, Thai Tea Snow and Halo Halo in Vampire Penguin’s lineup of shaved “snow” desserts.

Veggeez Plant Based Eatery

Location: 1325 N. Broome St., Waxhaw, NC, 28173

Veggeez Plant Based Eatery opened in Waxhaw at the end of March, offering a fully plant-based menu. Options include a Mushroom Reuben, Korean Style Tacos and Green Coconut Curry, along with burgers, soups, salads and more.

The Wafflery

Location: 1020 E 10th St., Charlotte NC 28204

The Wafflery, a new concept from the owner of Mattie’s Diner, opened May 1 in the former White Duck Taco Shop space in Charlotte’s Belmont neighborhood.

Whataburger

Location: 5301 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28217

Location: 12809 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28227

Location: 5018 Sunset Road, Charlotte NC 28269

A Charlotte location — or three — of the wildly popular Texas-based chain Whataburger is on the way. Plans filed with the city showed a “Whataburger Conversion of Former Bank” for the South Boulevard spot and mentioned utilizing the drive-thru where a previous Sun Trust Bank location stood are up in the air. But city filings for construction of another location at Clear Creek Crossing have gotten zoning approval. And more plans were filed on a third site. It’s a waiting game to see when those restaurants will materialize.

White Duck Taco Shop

Location: 131 E John St Suite A, Matthews, NC 28105

White Duck Taco Shop, which had been closed in Matthews for an extended time due to a summer 2023 fire, reopened in May. The restaurant is the North Carolina-based chain’s only Charlotte-area location since a temporary closure of the Belmont neighborhood location became permanent in fall 2023.

The Writer’s Room

Location: 3123 N Davidson St STE 104, Charlotte, NC 28205

A new bar in the former Protagonist space in NoDa is coming from Corey Duran, the owner of The People’s Market, Charlotte Business Journal reported. Look for classic cocktails, craft beer and wine when The Writer’s Room opens..

New Yafo Kitchen concept

Location: SouthPark

Restaurateur Frank Scibelli has plans to expand the Yafo Kitchen brand — focused on Mediterranean food — with a new full-service concept, Charlotte Business Journal reported.

Yama Asian Fusion

Location: 3533 Dewitt Lane, Charlotte, NC 28217

A new location of Yama Asian Fusion is now open in Lower South End. The restaurant known for sushi and hibachi now has three Charlotte restaurants, along with sister concept Baku.

The Yard Milkshake Bar

Location: Elizabeth on Seventh, N Caswell Rd &, E 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204

The Yard Milkshake Bar opened its first Charlotte dessert shop in early March, bringing over-the-top milkshake and sundae creations to the Elizabeth on Seventh development. It also offers eight flavors of cookie dough available as a pop or in a pint jar, including Birthday Dunk A Dough, Peanut Butter Monster and Snickerdoodle.

Yassou Greek

Location: 1039 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28207

Yassou Greek will offer recipes that “come from family tradition handed down generation after generation,” co-owner Landa Daglas told CharlotteFive. The restaurant will open in the space recently vacated by Italian restaurant Volo.

YAY Yogurt and Yuca

Location: 1425 Winnifred St., Suite 116, Charlotte NC 28203

Empanadas, yuca bread and frozen yogurt are now available at The Shops at The Winnifred, as YAY Yogurt and Yuca opened in January. The snack spot serves frozen yogurt, empanadas and yuca bread, a gluten-free Ecuadorian treat made with cassava flour and queso fresco.

Yummm Donut

Location: 624 Tyvola Rd, Charlotte, NC 28217

Yummm Donut, the Gastonia-based CharlotteFive Readers’ Choice winner for best doughnuts, has opened a Charlotte location. The Sept. 10 opening included giveaways, a raffle and more to celebrate the new shop.

Zepeddie’s Pizzeria

Location: 4516 Nations Crossing Road, Charlotte NC 28217

Zepeddie’s Pizzeria, which opened in the mid-’90s in Charlotte and closed, is back again. It’s now open in Lower South End, with New York-style pizza, calzones, subs and more.
