‘Charlotte, it’s go time’: Mike’s Vegan Grill opens in University City
A new option for plant-based eating is open in the University City area of Charlotte. Mike’s Vegan Grill is set to start serving up a variety of sandwiches, hot dogs and more.
The Greensboro-based restaurant that got its start in a food truck kicked things off by opening with a party Saturday, Jan. 27. Mike’s Vegan Grill opening. DJ Trap was set to spin tunes from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., with prizes and food flowing.
The news came the same week as longtime vegan restaurant Living Kitchen announced it would close in South End after 12 years.
What to expect
Mike’s makes vegan versions of favorite comfort foods such as burgers, sandwiches, tacos and quesadillas.
Make sure to check out its top sellers, paired with a side of seasoned fries, of course. They include:
- Philly cheesesteak
- Carolina Burger (Hawaiian bun, homemade chili, American cheese, coleslaw, diced onions and special sauce)
- Columbiana hot dog (sliced pineapple, crushed potato chips, pepper jack cheese and special sauce).
The restaurant also offers homemade lemonade and milkshakes, as well as dessert.
