New ‘approachable,’ neighborhood sushi restaurant is opening this week in South Charlotte
Love sushi so much you wish you could live near the ocean? Randy and Cinthya Garcia, the owners behind the Yunta and Viva Chicken, can help. They’re bringing Oshen, a family-friendly sushi restaurant, to South Charlotte with a grand opening Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The restaurant will be located at The Colony Place shopping center between The Arboretum and SouthPark. During its opening week, walk-ins will be welcome at lunch, but reservations via Resy will be required for dinner unless you can grab a seat at the first-come, first-serve bar. Online ordering will be available at a later date.
“You now live closer to the Oshen than you think,” the restaurant wrote via its Facebook page.
Oshen promises a “charming and sophisticated neighborhood sushi spot.” According to co-owner Garcia, the restaurant is meant to be an welcoming place for families, as it will offer an upscale atmosphere with “approachable” prices.
Oshen’s menu will feature sushi as a staple along with hibachi and several non-seafood options.
Leading the kitchen will be chef Seiya Noborikawa, a family friend of the Garcias who previously worked at Nobu Miami, known for its Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, as first reported by Axios Charlotte.
The concept is part of Garcia Hospitality Group, which also includes Yunta — known for its Nikkei cuisine, based on Peruvian ingredients and influenced by Japanese food. The couple also owns Viva Chicken, a fast casual Peruvian rotisserie chicken restaurant, and a TCBY frozen yogurt location in the same shopping center.
