South Charlotte restaurant is closing for good after years of slinging burgers, beer
After more than six years of serving up shareables, salads and indulgent Diner Burgers, Queen City Craft & Gourmet is permanently closing.
“We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past six and a half years. We have had to make the incredibly hard decision that this Sunday, February 23rd, will be our last day open,” the restaurant team shared via Instagram.
“It has been an incredible ride, and we are so grateful to all of our customers and employees for helping us make lasting memories here. We would love to see as many of you as possible over the next few days, so please come by for one last meal, one last drink, or just to say goodbye,” the message continued.
The restaurant opened in September 2018, with Charles Read and his wife, Catherine, promising “a fine-dining experience in a casual atmosphere.”
Its signature Diner Burger remained a staple for years, featuring double smash patties with American cheese, house-made pickles, red onion, garlic aioli and yellow mustard on house brioche bun.
Other menu offerings include savory bites such as Crab Deviled Eggs and Braised Beef Stroganoff, along with a wide selection of craft beer, cocktails, wine and non-alcoholic offerings.
Its curated brunch menu highlights a Crabcake Benedict and Brunch Burger, among other selections.
Regulars hopped on the restaurant’s Instagram post to share their regrets that Queen City Craft & Gourmet is saying goodbye.
“Noooo! I’m so sad to hear this! We love you guys and come in all the time. Wishing you all the best of luck in your next adventure,” Briana Faherty wrote.
Curtis McDonald said: “No! This is our go-to place. Fabulous staff and amazing food. Cannot count the time we’ve eaten here and have never been disappointed.”
Scott Griffin shared, “Charlotte’s craft beer scene will be worse for your absence. Good luck on y’all’s next endeavor!”
One thing to note: The restaurant’s annual Girl Scout cookie and beer pairing event — which this year features deep-fried Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Do-si-dos and Lemon Ups, paired with beer selections from Triple C Brewing — will go on as planned Thursday, Feb. 20 from 5 p.m. The event will last until the cookies run out or the restaurant closes.
