Friday seems like a good day to splurge, so it’s fitting that National Mac and Cheese Day happens to fall on July 14. Go find some cheesy goodness today. We’ve got seven places to start:

Mac’s Speed Shop

This barbecue joint opened in Charlotte in 2005 and now has seven locations. To pair with their award-winning Carolina barbecue (ahem, second place in the whole hog at this year’s Memphis in May), Mac’s has 300 cold beer options and “old-school,” comfort-food sides like, yes, Mac ‘N’ Cheese.

Oak Steakhouse

Newly opened in Charlotte, Oak is known for its “classic steak entrees and inspired contemporary dishes.” Not to be overlooked: The Pork Belly Mac & Cheese on the list of family style side dishes. It looks especially good with sides of Brussels Sprouts and Three-Cheese Lobster Grits, no?

Seoul Food Meat Co.

Yes, Seoul is widely touted for their double-fried wings (both chicken and tofu) and known for their aim to be a “Southern BBQ restaurant with a heavy Korean inspiration.” Hence the twist on mac and cheese: Ramen Mac & Cheese. Think Ramen noodles, various cheeses and Sriracha Cracklins on top.

1400 S. Church St., A.

YAFO Kitchen

When you think YAFO, you may think “crazy long lunch line,” “build-your-own-salad bowl,” or “Mediterranean food.” Don’t get too distracted as you move through the line of toppings — lingering in the proteins section of the counter is a heaping pot of Greek Yogurt Mac & Cheese just waiting for you to order it.

Heirloom

No, Chef Clark Barlowe’s restaurant, known for sourcing ingredients from local North Carolina farms and foragers, is not too fancy for mac and cheese. You’ll find their Truffle Mac & Cheese on the a la carte list of sides. Not that that should stop you from opting for the six-course Chef’s Tasting Menu.

8470 Bellhaven Blvd.

The Packhouse

This restaurant just opened on East Morehead Street, complete with rocking chairs and outdoor dining, a bar made from lacquered tobacco leaves and a charitable component (DeeDee Mills’ restaurants support Behailu Academy). Order an entree in a casserole dish (Skillet Tomato Pie, anyone?) and a side of the Collard Mac and Cheese.

JackBeagle’s

For the mac daddy of mac and cheese smorgasbords, there’s Jack Beagle’s in NoDa. Order a bowl or cup of Mac-N-Cheese with bacon bits, Classic Mac, Blue-Black Mac with blue cheese and bacon, Mexi-Mac with a jalapeno and roasted tomatillo, Jack-Mac with spices and garlic, or Chili-Mac with chili and cheddar. Decisions, decisions.
