Charlotte mainstay Crepe Cellar will close. A new concept will take its place
Crepe Cellar is closing, and a new restaurant concept is taking over the European gastropub’s place in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood.
“Listen, we know change can be bittersweet. Trust us, we’re living it! BUT we are soooooo excited to share this new place with you,” owners Jamie Brown and Jeff Tonidandel said via Instagram.
The new restaurant, Ever Andalo, will serve homemade Italian food and wine in what is now the Crepe Cellar space. Changes to the decor and branding will also make way for a new menu, although a few old favorites will stick around, including the burrata.
“Every restaurant has a life span,” Brown told CharlotteFive on Tuesday morning. “Crepe Cellar, while very dear to us, is no different. For several years we’ve been discussing how to revamp the menu and how to give it a refresh, but we kept resulting in wanting to do a completely new concept.”
The idea for the restaurant is tied to the couple’s travels — they once spent six weeks in northern Italy tracing the Tonidandel last name.
In the U.S., it’s a rare name, Brown said. But in the Dolomite region of northern Italy, there are hundreds of Tonidandels, and the village of Andalo was genesis of the name. (Think: Antonio di Andalo, which eventually became Tonidandel, Brown said.)
At the new restaurant, you can expect an approachable menu, including some shareable plates, and an extensive Italian wine list. The new restaurant will be bright and airy, Brown said. You’ll get to see the changes in real time as you visit Crepe Cellar, too — the transition will happen over the next few months while the restaurant remains open.
The news of the change in concept was first reported by Axios Charlotte.
