Brunch news: An Italian restaurant in South End is adding brunch to its lineup.
When I think of “Italian brunch,” my mind goes straight to bellying up to a busy counter and elevating my inside voice so that my “due cappuccini, per favore” can be heard over the sounds of caffeinated Italian men, cappuccino machines spitting and porcelain clinking.
I think of fette biscottate dipped into said cappuccinos (one is never enough) before moving on with the day.
And while that is just about a perfect way to start a day of sightseeing in Rome, an Italian colazione of coffee and a cookie is not exactly the way we celebrate weekend brunch in the United States.
So, how about an Italian twist on an American experience?
Indaco Italian restaurant at Atherton Mill has hired new executive chef Sean Galianese, who brings influence from his Italian-American family into his cooking.
“Joining Indaco feels like a homecoming since it was in my Italian family’s kitchen where I first learned to appreciate the power of food to bring people together,” Galianese said in a statement. “I take those first smells and tastes that I experienced growing up and add my own modern twist to them for the menu that I am creating at Indaco.”
Brunch starts now
Galianese’s first move is to launch a new brunch at the restaurant, starting Saturday. Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.
Here’s a peek at some of the menu offerings:
- A new take on Eggs Benedict: With fried polenta cakes instead of an English muffin and pancetta instead of ham.
- Carbonara Burger: Made with C.A.B. patty, pancetta, mozzarella, soft-fried egg, Pecorino Romano and black pepper aioli. Inspired by the classic carbonara pasta dish, of course.
- Soft Scrambled Egg Toast: Eggs from Harmony Ridge Farm in Tobaccoville, N.C.
- Black Pepper Tagliatelle: egg yolk, pork tesa, chives, parmesan. It’s already a staple on the dinner menu and you can order it for brunch, too.
Bloody Mary: Charred lemon, Aleppo peppers and pancetta, created by bar manager Nicholas Mazzaroni.
