bb.q Chicken — a well-known Korean food restaurant — has opened its first Charlotte location in the Arboretum.

Owner Yehweon Nam — who was born and raised in Korea and moved to Charlotte three years ago — is excited about introducing a taste of Korea’s fried chicken to the area with bb.q Chicken Arboretum.

The restaurant offers a variety with more than 10 sauce and seasoning options for Korean fried chicken and chicken fingers, including honey garlic, hot spicy, gang-jeong, soy garlic, spicy galbi and cheesling.

“We always try to develop and challenge new flavors and menus for our customers,” Nam said. “So, you can expect new and trendy menus that come from the Korean market.”

Sides include sweet potato fries, fried dumplings, corn salad and more. The K-Food menu includes the Ddeok-Bokki Rice — fish cakes and rice cake that is reduced in a sweet and spicy red chili sauce — and Kimchi Fried Rice — stir chicken fried rice with vegetables and kimchi base.

Established in 1995, bb.q Chicken’s goal has been to provide its customers tasty, healthy and flavorful premium chicken. The chain expanded to the United States in 2014 and landed itself on Nation’s Restaurant News list of the 25 fastest-growing restaurant chains in America.

What you should know:

  • bb.q means “best of the best quality,” not barbecue. bb.q Chicken’s tasty and healthy food recipes are tested at Chicken University.

  • While bb.q Chicken does offer golden original fried chicken, it’s all about the complexity of flavors that your chicken can be tossed in and the texture. You can expect light, crunchy and tender fried chicken.

  • It’s authentic Korean fried chicken. Sauces and recipes come from bb.q Chicken in Korea.

  • You can walk in to order, pick up your food and find a place to sit. Outdoor seating is also available.

“We are very excited about sharing authentic Korean fried chicken and being together with this community,” Nam said. “The most exciting thing is that we are going to be a part of the unique and various cultures of the community.”
