A rooftop tortilleria with skyline views headed to a fast-growing corridor of Charlotte

The tortillas of our dreams are on their way. A new Mexican tortilleria from the team behind Craft Growler Shop and Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails is coming to the Lower Tuck adaptive reuse development. Construction on the restaurant, originally set for summer 2022, has now begun.

The restaurant Maíz Agua Sal, — Corn, Water, Salt in English — will be called MAS for short. (It’s an additional word cute: It means “more” in Spanish.)

What to expect: MAS will serve freshly pressed tortillas for its tacos, along with huevos rancheros and more. Drinks will include aguas frescas and hand crafted agave-based cocktails.

The space: The restaurant will spread across 5,200 square feet indoors and outdoors, with a rooftop patio offering skyline views.

The vibe: “We are creating an experience inspired by our travels to Mexico City to visit childhood friends, our amazing team who share our passion for freshly pressed corn tortillas and the response we’ve had to Lincoln Street’s huevos rancheros to bring true, vibrant Mexican flavor and cuisine with MAS,” owner Alyson Davis said.

More to come: It’s the first restaurant announcement for the Lower Tuck project. Developer Third & Urban’s Caleb Brenneman expects the area to become a “foodie destination for Charlotte.”

Third & Urban is expanding its Lower Tuck campus with the $23 million purchase of three buildings in west Charlotte. The project started with the $80 million purchase of four buildings at 929 Jay and 1018 Jay streets and 800 and 835 Gesco streets for adaptive-reuse.
