What the Fries is bringing back a fan favorite in Charlotte.
The secret is out: What the Fries is a place you should know about, and now the whole world knows, too. The restaurant was featured Wednesday, Jan. 26 on Cooking Channel’s “Food Paradise.”
We’ve long known the South Charlotte/Pineville-area restaurant that specializes in craft creations of loaded French fries and tater tots should be on your list of newer spots to visit and a great place to get an affordable meal. Back when What the Fries was a food truck, Cooking Channel featured it on “Southern and Hungry.”
And now, there’s even more good news. The “Food Paradise” episode featured two dishes, including a longtime favorite that will return to the permanent menu starting Thursday, Jan. 27 — Crab Rangoon Fries, pictured at top. (The other dish featured was its well-known Lobster Mac & Cheese Fries, shown below.)
The Cooking Channel synopsis for Season 16, Episode 4, dubbed “Retro Remix” had given us a heavy hint as to what would be featured: “Everything old is new again as classic comfort food favorites become unique mashups like spaghetti grilled cheese, crab Rangoon French fries, barbacoa stroganoff, chicken and waffle doughnuts and even a meatball burrito.”
If you didn’t tune in or set your DVR to record it, you can catch it again Jan. 27 at 2 a.m. or Feb. 27 at noon.
“We hope this will set us apart and tell the story of how we are more than just fries; what we offer is an elevated and unexpected culinary experience,” co-owner and chef Greg Williams said.
