Asheville-based Burial Beer Co. has hit pause on its Charlotte opening date. Its Plaza Midwood taproom and expanded bottle shop — called The House of Relics — had been set to open in the former Boris & Natasha space June 4, but now that has been pushed back.

A Thursday night post on Burial’s Instagram read: “We’ve run into some unforeseen construction delays out of our control and, as a result, we have to postpone the opening preview of The House of Relics in Charlotte. Our sincere apologies for the delay.”

Doug Reiser, Burial’s chief operating officer who founded the brewery with his wife, Jess Reiser, and Tim Gormley, previously expressed excitement about the location.

”The character of great places cannot be made out of thin air, and we felt that our new Plaza Midwood home gave us the ability to revive an epic fixture of its history.”

WHAT TO EXPECT

TAPROOM: The new taproom will feature:

  • A variety of beer styles, from lagers and wild ales to the brewery’s popular IPAs and stouts.
  • A food menu, which includes sandwiches, charcuterie and other goods from local vendors.

“It’s not even about beer,” Reiser told CharlotteFive last year. “But immersive experiences require you to make really good beer, with a great story with amazing imagery and a really good vibe and aura to the space, with good people. All those things are required, and we feel this space gives us the best opportunity to do that.”
