Green’s Lunch is going on hiatus — but it will be back to serving Charlotte soon
Long-running uptown Charlotte spot Green’s Lunch will be closed for a few weeks so the staff can take a much-needed vacation. Starting this week until July 11, owner Joanna Sikiotis and her crew will close the doors of the fast-casual hot dog eatery that has been in the same location since 1926.
Located on 4th Street— just across from Truist Field— Green’s Lunch is well known for its boiled hot dogs with steamed buns and a secret chili recipe that has now been passed down through two families and four generations. If you ever ask a native Charlottean the best place to grab a quick dog in uptown, they’ll likely point you to Green’s.
“It’s just a really special place,” Sikiotis told CharlotteFive just before her vacation. “We’ve had everyone from Billy Graham, Cam Newton, singer Anthony Hamilton and more come through these doors. And over the 90 plus years of being in business, we’ve survived everything from World War II, the Depression, recessions and a global pandemic.”
In addition to the hot dogs, which are served a number of ways from plain to all-the-way, the menu features burgers, chili cheese fries, BLT sandwiches, and a few other quick lunch and breakfast bites.
