The biggest cheesesteak news this year: Cheat’s is now open — plan to stand in a long line
Cheat’s Cheesesteak Parlor is a new Charlotte cheesesteak restaurant now open on Pecan Avenue (near Rico’s Acai and Villani’s Bakery), and if the long lines are any indication, it’s the biggest cheesesteak news of the year.
Cheat’s Cheesesteaks began as a Charlotte-based cheesesteak pop-up, where it has quickly gained fans. All those fans (and then some!) can be found waiting in line since the restaurant opened last week. On opening day last Wednesday, the restaurant sold out so fast that it had to close Thursday to regroup.
Every day since opening day, when our hungry colleagues have driven by hoping for a Classic Wiz-Wit, the lines have been so long there have been traffic backups on Pecan. At times, the line has stretched from the building all the way to the overpass near Commonwealth Avenue.
Given the crowds, the restaurant also closed Monday for a little R&R. “We’ve got more staff incoming to help with the incredible volume we’re experiencing as well this coming week, and we want to make sure we’re ready,” the team stated on Sunday. “In the future, we will be open 7 days a week as well as expanding our hours of service.”
For now, head on over to Cheat’s Cheesesteaks from noon-7 p.m. on Pecan. Our advice: Consider dessert first? Hear us out — swing by Villani’s or Rico’s for a sweet fix, then enjoy it while you’re standing in line for your Italian hoagie and loaded cheesesteak fries.
To vegetarians and vegans, there are options for you, too. A Beyond Meat cheesesteak can be ordered with vegan cheddar and the loaded cheesesteak fries have a choice of Beyond Meat as well.
