New name, new owner, same ‘amazing meals.’ The Neighborhood Café opens in Huntersville

Brunch is back at the cozy Huntersville restaurant that formerly housed Café 100.

The Neighborhood Café opened Friday at 100 Huntersville-Concord Road. The name has changed, but the kitchen staff and the café’s warm atmosphere will stay intact under the leadership of new owner Tim Fadul.

“I was a longtime patron and huge fan of Café 100,” Fadul said. “The food was fabulous. The wonderful outdoor seating was inviting. It’s just a great place with a wonderful vibe.”

Café 100 closed in January, and the building went through renovations prior to opening as the Neighborhood Café. This is the first restaurant venture for Fadul, who chose to rename the cafe both for legal reasons and in considering opportunities for future expansions, as the “100” was tied to the address.

“The very first thing I did was hire the manager who was here before and the original kitchen and wait staff, some who’ve been here over a decade,” Fadul said. “For years, this place turned out amazing meals. Everything on the menu is spectacular, and we’re going to keep it that way.”

Most of the original café’s menu favorites such as crab cake or filet benedict will remain the same, as they were original creations from the kitchen staff. Others, like Nate’s Fantastic French Toast, have been renamed, and a few might have an extra ingredient or two now. The team has also added a few new items to enhance the menu, such as a charcuterie board and hummus platter.

“This place made its way as a breakfast, brunch and lunch destination, and that’s why we’re here,” Fadul said. “If you come here once, you’ll come back again.”

The café is situated in a 75-year-old house with multiple rooms converted into dining areas. The shiplap walls are adorned with purchasable artwork from local artists. Perhaps the biggest draw, though, is the cozy outdoor dining area situated under a canopy of trees in a garden-style setting.

Michael Doty of Belmont was among the first customers when the restaurant opened Friday. He was first to order the café’s signature cocktail — the Sunrise, which is a mimosa with a “hometown twist” that includes vodka and a splash of cranberry.

“When Café 100 closed down, it was just heartbreaking to the community,” Doty said. “The fact that Tim resurrected it made us want to come back and support. And it doesn’t disappoint. It feels exactly the way it always did – just wonderful! It’s worth coming back to have a great home cooked meal by a staff that cares for you and treats you like family.”

The Neighborhood Café is open daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
