Carolina Panthers fans delight: Not only will there soon be a new uptown Charlotte sports bar where you can watch the Cardiac Cats in action, but there’s a good chance you may catch a glimpse of former fan favorite Thomas Davis, Sr., running the show.

Davis announced plans on Instagram to open TEN58 Sports Bar and Lounge at 6 p.m. on Nov. 17 at 430 W. Fourth St. — the site of the former Taproom Social space. He had originally hoped to open doors by Sept. 11, when the Panthers took on starting quarterback Baker Mayfield’s former team, the Cleveland Browns, in the first week of the season.

“I promise you, it’s going to be one of the hottest spots in Charlotte,” Davis told his fans at the time, while also noting that the restaurant will be fully owned and operated by him. “I’m putting a lot of work and a lot of personal touch and personal detail to this spot.”

Ten was his jersey number in college, when he played for the Georgia Bulldogs, and 58 was his number for the Panthers.

After 16 seasons in the NFL, Davis retired from football in 2021, signing a one-day contract with the Panthers to end his career with the franchise he started with. At the time of his retirement, Davis said his heart has always been in Charlotte.

While the former Pro Bowl linebacker may be partial to the Panthers, Davis assures that TEN58 will be “one of the top venues to go to for a nice game day experience,” for all Carolinas teams – from Charlotte Football Club to the Hornets to the Knights, Checkers and Charlotte Thunder. And Thomas, who played in college football for the University of Georgia in the early 2000s, also promised that Bulldogs fans will “especially” love his restaurant.

Davis said Ten58 will have “great music and a great vibe” and serve as a place where customers can unwind with delicious food and drinks. “Come check us out, man, it’s going to be one of the newest popping spots in Charlotte,” Davis said.

Also in his message, Davis shared that he is no longer involved in Tap and Vine at Stonecrest. He didn’t elaborate, only noting that “sometimes in business things just don’t work out according to plan.”
