Editor’s note: Want to place one more Your Mom’s Donuts order? Place it ahead of time if you can: “Please be patient with us this last week as we have very little staff and a lot of orders coming in! Pre-orders are open for the rest of the week. Just pick your day and pickup location in the instructions area on Shopify,” the shop posted on Instagram on Feb. 1.

Both Charlotte-area locations of Your Mom’s Donuts will be closing up shop for good on Feb. 5, owner Courtney Ahern announced via social media.

“10 years ago, right about now, my world came crashing down. It was the beginning of the end of my little farm and I had no idea what was next, it was absolutely terrifying. What grew from the ashes was this little donut shop, and even after what comes next, I will forever be grateful for this chapter of my life. With that said, February 5th will be our last day,” her Instagram post said.

“I am sitting in that same terrified place, but after the last nearly 3 years, this is our only option. Over the next 4 weeks we’ll do our best to make your favorites one last time. I am so grateful for every one of you, every time you chose this little donut shop,” the post continued.

The news was first reported by Axios Charlotte.

The doughnut shop had locations in Matthews and on Park Road. An expansion to Davidson in Lake Norman opened in October 2020 and closed in June 2021. Your Mom’s Donuts were also available at the seasonal Davidson’s Farmers Market on Saturdays.

Members of the Charlotte community — including fellow business owners — quickly responded to the post.

“Wow…watching your story inspired me to go for mine. Wishing you the best of luck in your next chapter,” said Jasmine Macon of Beyond Amazing Donuts, a pop-up doughnut shop opening a brick-and-mortar location at Camp North End.

Amanda McLamb, co-owner of Resident Culture, said, “Every time we came to visit you, you should have seen the light on our two babies’ faces. You have made their joy, many times over amidst our running-of-errands.”

A customer named Desiree’ P. wrote,” Your Mom’s Doughnuts was a part of my love story with my late husband. I would tell the tale of our 1st visit there and how he tried to rest his knee against my leg to see if I’d pull away (we weren’t even dating yet, just coworkers) and all of these years later, he would still put his knee on my leg just so we’d always be connected. We got married and visited YMD many times always laughing about that day. He would always ask if we should stop in if we were nearby, even if he knew the shop was closed because that was our spot. I lost him a week before Christmas so I guess I need to get his favorite doughnut one last time. Thank you for making our lives a lot sweeter.”
