Gus’ Sir Beef, a Charlotte Classic Eats spot known for its soothing Southern comfort food made with local ingredients, has been closed until further notice.

A note posted on the door Wednesday read, “Closed due to owner knee injury. Please excuse the inconvenience.“

Twice this week, the restaurant posted on Facebook: “We regret to inform our customers that we have experienced an issue that is requiring some time to evaluate. We will be closed until further notice. We greatly appreciate your patience, love, and support.”

Customers responded with messages for owner Thrace Bacogeorge.

“Sending good thoughts and hope you are open again soon, Thrace!,” customer Lynne Cosper said.

Customer Nick X. Nixon said, “Praying everything will be OK Thrace. Wishing the best for you and your employees. Keep us updated, will keep you all in my prayers.”

No one was answering the phone at the restaurant Wednesday, and no cars were in the parking lot. A message sent to its email address wasn’t immediately returned.

A follow-up post from the restaurant’s Facebook account said: “We really appreciate all the understanding, love and support from our customers, family and friends. It takes a little of the sting out of having to be closed.”

About a week ago, the restaurant posted: “We regret having to be closed today but our owner was out with a knee issue. We will reopen tomorrow at 11 a.m. Hope to see you then.” However, the next day, another closure notice was posted: “Sorry, we have to close today as well. We regret any inconvenience, and hope to try again tomorrow.”

The late Gus Bacogeorge opened his namesake restaurant in 1969. Thrace Bacogeorge took over the restaurant in 2000.

“We really were the first farm-to-table restaurant in Charlotte,” Thrace previously told CharlotteFive. Gus’ Sir Beef once acquired a farm to grow its vegetables and now gets much of its produce from local farms.
