The People’s Market, now settled into its new digs in Elizabeth, is launching a cocktail program and new additions to its food menu.

Starting Thursday, you’ll be able to taste the new offerings from chef Deacon Ovall and Charlotte mixologist Bob Peters, along with The People’s Market’s familiar lineup of coffee drinks brewed with Magnolia Coffee, tea, smoothies and pastries.

The restaurant, situated on Elizabeth Avenue near Customshop and Big Ben Pub in the former Earl’s Grocery spot, is spacious and bright, filled with local art and a cheery vibe carried by canary yellow accents throughout.

New food options

Brand new pizza choices are joining the menu at The People’s Market, as well as taco options. The choices include:

  • Ricotta Be Kiddin’ Me Pizza - sun-dried tomato and black garlic sauce, mozzarella, lemon-thyme ricotta, pecorino, fresh basil and lemon oil
  • Tommy Pickles Pizza - dill ranch sauce, mozzarella, house pickles, pickled red onion and fresh dill
  • Juan’s Tacos - with options for barbacoa, chicken, shrimp or veggies
  • Southern Reuben - house pastrami, Swiss cheese, slaw, wholegrain mustard and Verdant try
  • Smoked Salmon Bagel - dry cured salmon, lemon dill cream cheese, cucumber and pickled red onion.

Owner Cory Duran’s favorite? “The tacos are really good. I’m really excited about them — it’s kind of my go-to,” he told CharlotteFive.

The cocktails and mocktails

The cocktail program created by Peters — who also recently put together the cocktail program at Yunta — includes:

  • When Bobby Met Whitney - vodka, chai, citrus and prosecco
  • I Left My Wallet in El Segundo - tequila, espresso, krupinkas, simple syrup and orange
  • Elizabeth’s Dillworth Story - gin, cran cinnamon, lime, rosemary and soda
  • This One’s For You, Loretta - bourbon, apple cider and punt e mes.

  • Pineapple Matcha - pineapple, orange juice and matcha

The People’s Market had originally been located in Dilworth, but closed during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Now, with the new location in Elizabeth thriving, Duran is looking ahead to the future. The Charlotte native who grew up in Charlotte’s Hidden Valley area said he’s on the lookout for spots to open more locations, as well. While he’s not ruling out a West Charlotte location, he’s also looking in areas such as Ballantyne.

“I just want to be where the people are,” Duran told CharlotteFive.
