Charlotte chef Chris Coleman headed back to Food Network to show off his skills one more time. On Wednesday, Feb. 15, the “Chopped” champion who also “Beat Bobby Flay” headed into battle at Guy Fieri’s Flavortown.

Coleman, who also made a successful appearance on Alex Guarnaschelli’s “Alex vs. America,” appeared on “Guy’s Grocery Games” with three other chefs who have become familiar faces on Food Network for a chance to earn $15,000 and the title of Flavortown Food Network Champion.

He didn’t win. But you can still catch the executive chef and partner at The Goodyear House in Charlotte, as well as Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails in Rock Hill, on reruns of Season 29, Episode 3 on Food Network.

Food Network Champs

In the episode, the synopsis says, “Fieri welcomes four chefs who’ve won virtually every Food Network competition to compete on GGG. But to get to the final round, they must first compete in a pair of one-on-one sudden death matches.”

Coleman’s competitors were: Britt Rescigno who has won all the same shows as Coleman, Evan Hennessey, who’s won “Chopped” three times and Tristen Epps, who also won “Chopped.”

In the first round, Coleman faced off against Epps in a Taco Night battle, creating a Midnight Munchies Quesabirria Taco using ground turkey and mac and cheese off the Flavortown Market hot bar to put up against Epps’ Taco Arabic dish, using ribs and chorizo with ground turkey.

With a score of 35 (14 for gameplay, 15 for taste and 6 for plating), Coleman lost to Epps, who got a a total score of 41 (16 for gameplay, 17 for taste and 8 for plating).

“Obviously there’s some choices I would go back and do differently, but overall, I’m happy. I’m here!,” Coleman said.

Rescigno and Hennessey faced off against each other, as well, with Rescigno coming out on top.

In the end, Rescigno took the win in a competition featuring squid snacks, banana leave and halibut.
