A pub is nestled in North Carolina — but makes “you feel like you’re in Ireland.”

So much so, it now ranks among the best Irish pubs in the United States and Canada, according to results published March 1 from the restaurant review website Yelp.

The Workman’s Friend in Charlotte ranked No. 12 after Yelp said it studied Irish pubs across this part of the world. Then, it “ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews” over time.

The results were released ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, which falls on March 17. Across Charlotte, venues are celebrating with food specials, music and other festive offerings, CharlotteFive reported.

On Instagram, The Workman’s Friend said it’s marking the occasion with dancing and Irish breakfast, which consists of eggs, beans, toast and other hardy morning staples. Read more about the celebration here.

Also at The Workman’s Friend, an ongoing acoustic performance series is set to continue March 19. On Yelp, several customers said live music added to the pub’s welcoming atmosphere, helping it earn more than four out of five stars.

Many Yelp users also said they couldn’t get enough of the pub’s takes on dishes that are popular across the pond, including shepherd’s pie and fish and chips. And some customers were big fans of the beer selection, too.

The Workman’s Friend, located at 1531 Central Ave. in Charlotte, said it has an open-air space that looks out onto the street. The establishment calls itself “Plaza Midwood’s neighborhood Irish pub, pouring perfect pints since 2016.”

The pub was the only place in North Carolina to earn a spot on Yelp’s top 25 list. Overall, the top-ranking business was Tim Finnegan’s Irish Restaurant and Pub in the Phoenix-area city of Glendale, Arizona.
