Your last chance to stop by this Charlotte doughnut shop is coming soon. Here’s when.
Big changes are in store for Beyond Amazing Donuts, created by pastry chef Jasmine Macon.
On March 28 — three years after announcing a move into the space — Macon announced on Beyond Amazing Donuts’ Instagram page that she would close up her shop in Charlotte’s Montford neighborhood.
A date wasn’t set at the time, but Macon shared on April 22 via Instagram that she was told her time in the space is up on April 26.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I share that Beyond Amazing Donuts will be closing its doors Saturday due to unexpected circumstances beyond our control. This isn’t the way I imagined our journey would end, and it’s not a decision I made lightly.
“The timeline has abruptly shifted, and while it’s been incredibly hard to process, I’m choosing to hold onto the love and support we’ve received from all of you over the past year.”
Macon previously wrote, “On March 28th, 2023, I announced that Beyond Amazing Donuts would be moving into 1730 Abbey Place. So, it feels fitting to share that on March 28th, 2025, we will be entering our final few weeks in this space … While our days at 1730 Abbey Place are coming to an end, Beyond Amazing Donuts’ presence in Charlotte is not going anywhere.
“Having a brick-and-mortar has been a whole new beast, and while I’ve loved every part of it — the laughter, the tears, the reviews, the complaints, even those who said we were ‘too damn expensive’ — it’s time for me to pause and reassess what this business looks like for me. This isn’t a goodbye … I feel blessed — deeply blessed. And I’m excited to continue this journey, even if it looks a little different. Beyond Amazing Donuts has never been defined by four walls. It’s anywhere I am.”
Comments poured in expressing their support and love of Macon’s pastries.
Lisa M. Rigoni wrote, “I found you at a pop up at 7th Street Market. Then, when I was out that way, I would always stop and get donuts. When I saw you were at the Uptown Market, every week I’d get donuts and talk with Marcus. I truly loved the donuts you made and the people who worked at the markets and in your stores. Whatever you do next, I hope to support as best I can.”
Angela Anagho said, “The other side of entrepreneurship can be a beast! Rest up and pivot how you need to so that you are well and enjoying the ride.”
Before opening the shop also known as B.A.D., Macon worked for chef Greg and Subrina Collier’s BayHaven Restaurant Group at Leah & Louise, where she was able to focus on her own recipes. After that, she sold doughnuts at pop-up locations including HEX Coffee at Camp North End.
Macon indicated on Instagram that B.A.D.’s retail location will be open for “about another month,” so doughnut lovers can still get their fix at the Abbey Place shop for now.
