Overzealous alert: Charlotte’s newest ice cream shop will have arcade, retro games
Seemingly Overzealous — a Charlotte ice cream shop known for making its treats without dairy, eggs or gluten — is opening a third location this spring.
In late May, the brand co-founded by Garrett Tichy and Jessica Berresse will open its new Dilworth shop, situated near Sunflour Baking Co. and not too far away from fellow newcomer Leluia Hall.
The newest Seemingly Overzealous shop will come with a bonus: a game room filled with classic arcade machines and retro games, where kids and adults alike can play while enjoying their scoops.
“We’re always thinking about how to make each shop an experience,” Tichy and Berresse said in a news release.
“We want people to walk in and feel something. Hopefully that feeling is joy, and that’s before we put the cherry on top with ice cream.”
The brand got its start when the pair met in 2020 and bonded over their shared love of dessert.
Tichy and Berresse opened their first brick-and-mortar shop at Camp North End in 2022, with creative flavors and waffle cones free of dairy, eggs and gluten. Honey is sometimes in the mix, so the ice cream is not vegan.
Its second spot — in Plaza Midwood — opened in November 2024.
Ice cream selections rotate, but you can expect to find choices such as:
- Easy to Love, a classic “milk” chocolate flavor
- Big Mint City Fan, which is mint chocolate chip
- Unwilling Participant, a lemon blueberry cheesecake blend
- Queen Bee, a taste of lavender with honeycomb
Each Seemingly Overzealous shop also features custom artwork created by a local artist, and Brett TWOKAT will be the one bringing his playful style to the mural at the Dilworth shop.
Mad Goat Studio has helped to design a nostalgic and character-filled space for the shop.
“We’re thrilled to be growing the small business community on that strip,” Tichy said in an email to CharlotteFive.
