Locally owned Rio 150, a Mexican restaurant that’s quickly expanding from its home base in Lake Norman, is set to open a fourth location in Charlotte’s Steele Creek neighborhood.

The go-to spot featured on “America’s Best Restaurants” in 2023 has now taken over the former Chili’s Grill & Bar building in Whitehall Commons.

Soon, customers will be sipping on its margaritas — well known in the Mooresville area for their shareable size — and traditional-style tacos.

“We plan to open around July this summer, God willing,” co-owner Rashel Limper told CharlotteFive. “We are so exited to be at our first standalone building.”

New partner Paul Hezar is joining the Rio 150 ownership team on the Steele Creek location, which will seat 220 people.

Its third location at Concord Mills will be opening Monday, April 21 at 11 a.m. The restaurant will give away $10 gift cards for use on a return visit to the first 100 tables.
