A sweet treat is probably the last thing on your mind when doing laundry, but that’s not the case at a new Charlotte laundromat with a hidden cafe inside.

From the outside, the new North Tryon Street laundromat in North Charlotte looks like any typical self-service laundry business.

But beyond the rows of commercial grade washers and dryers, you’ll find a cozy, quaint corner to sip on coffee over baked goods at the in-house bakery and cafe called Roasted Tinto.

‘Bringing the flavors of Colombia to you’

The local laundromat is a family affair run by Camilla Franco and her parents, who opened their first location on North Tryon Street nearly a decade ago.

But when opening its sister spot, they decided to add something special to make laundry day a bit sweeter — literally.

Franco told CharlotteFive that her stepdad “started realizing that people, every time they were going to the laundry, they were leaving their clothes and then they were going out to do other things, like grocery shopping … going for lunch.”

“So he had this idea of opening a bigger and better laundromat where people could have a space to do their laundry, but also do something while they were waiting on it. Seven years later … we just had enough space to open something else inside of it, and we decided to go for a bakery/coffee shop.”

That bakery and coffee shop is known as Roasted Tinto, with freshly baked goods, traditional pastries, sandwiches and more inspired by the authentic Colombian flavors her mother learned to bake with. On the menu there’s also lattes, assorted teas and natural juices — available for customers to enjoy even if they aren’t visiting to wash clothes.

“We just wanted to add a little bit more where people could meet, they could spend some time, they can create connections and just have a good time while they’re doing laundry because I know nobody likes to do that,” Franco explained.
