Just ahead of Cinco de Mayo, two much-anticipated restaurants serving burritos, tacos and other Mexican food have opened in Fort Mill. They join several other new spots serving burgers, pizza, Asian food and more.

Here are five quick bites on new and soon-to-be coming openings across the Rock Hill region.

Phat Burrito opens on Main Street in Fort Mill

South Charlotte restaurant Phat Burrito opened Wednesday in Fort Mill. Phat Burrito serves beef, chicken, fish, tofu and veggie burritos. There are also tacos, quesadillas, salads and a full bar menu. The original Charlotte location opened more than two decades ago, then closed for years. It reopened in August 2023.

Big portions and even some sweet treats provide “all the flavor, all the heat, and all the vibes you didn’t know you needed,” Phat Burrito posted on its Instagram page.

The Fort Mill spot at 100 Main St. is one of the town’s most visible locations. It’s at the bottom of Main Street, near the train tracks, in what was a pizza and ice cream restaurant until it closed early this year. It’s near Hobos, Fortes Mill Eatery, Improper Pig, Amor Artis and the rest of Fort Mill’s growing food scene downtown.

Phat Burrito is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Paco’s Tacos opens in Fort Mill’s Kingsley

Kingsley in Fort Mill lost a Mexican food restaurant when Taco Molino closed, but gained one back when Paco’s Tacos & Tequila replaced it. Paco’s Tacos opened April 21 at 1328 Broadcloth St.

Like Phat Burrito, Paco’s Tacos comes from Charlotte to add a second location in Fort Mill. (There’s one in the SouthPark area.) The Tex-Mex menu has tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas and fajitas. There’s also chili and bacon-wrapped jalapenos.

Paco’s Tacos is open daily for lunch and dinner.

Power Play sports bar opens in Rock Hill

Rock Hill’s Power House food hall added another option with Power Play Sports Bar and Grill. It’s at 378 Technology Center Way, in the University Center area.

The restaurant offering “good vibes, great food, nice drinks and non-stop sports action” announced its soft opening Friday on Instagram. For now, it’s open 2-9 p.m.

Power Play joins other recent food hall additions in Jamaican restaurant Savvy Eats and comfort food spot Peaceful Palate.

Jet’s Pizza arrives in Indian Land

Jet’s Pizza brings its Detroit-style pizza to Indian Land with the opening of a store at 10092 Charlotte Hwy. Saturday’s grand opening gave customers the chance to try its 4 Corner Pizza with distinct flavors on each of its deep dish corners.

Jet’s started in Michigan back in 1978, and it’s now open in 22 states.

In addition to Detroit-style pizza, the menu includes thin crust, hand tossed and New York-style pizza. There are gluten-free and cauliflower crust options, too. There are BLT, Aloha chicken and Buffalo ranch chicken versions in addition to typical toppings.

Detroit-style pizza is the name of the game at Jet’. The trademark thick crust, baked in square steel pans to a light, airy, crisp-cornered turn, will silence all but the harshest critic.

Culver’s coming to Indian Land

A new Culver’s burger and frozen custard spot is expected to open this month in Indian Land. The Wisconsin-based fast food chain is known for its ButterBurger with a toasted and buttered bun, small batch frozen custard and Wisconsin cheese curds.

The menu also has chicken, seafood and salad. Eight burger options include a sourdough melt and pub burger. Frozen custard mixes into several desserts like shakes, malts, root beer floats, sundaes and concrete mixers.

Culver’s opened a Fort Mill location more than a decade ago, near Carowinds. The new Indian Land spot is about 15 miles southeast of there, at 8040 Charlotte Hwy. That’s near Shelley Mullis Road, in front of the new Parkstone at Indian Land apartments.

Culver’s has 10 South Carolina locations and four more, including Indian Land, listed as coming soon. Apart from the Fort Mill site, though, the nearest Culver’s restaurants are in North Carolina. Among the 18 sites in that state are stops in Charlotte, Belmont, Indian Trail, Kannapolis and Mooresville.

More new restaurants across the Rock Hill region

Other spots continue to add flavors to the area, from the new Yoshi Ramen opening in Tega Cay’s Stonecrest to the return of Little Caesar’s in Fort Mill. Signs are up now for the pizza shop beside Wing King Cafe on North Dobys Bridge Road, after the Little Caesar’s downtown closed a few months ago.
