New restaurant with fast-casual Indian fusion is opening in North Charlotte
A new fast-casual restaurant mixing Indian fusion with street food is opening this weekend in North Charlotte.
Soma Bistro & Cafe is opening Saturday, May 31 near the Trader Joe’s in the former Curry N Cake Indian Restaurant space. The Soma name is meant to stand for “Serving originals, merging aromas.”
The restaurant is “pulling inspiration from the streets of Hyderabad, the markets of Delhi, and the kitchens of Mumbai,” an Instagram post says, adding that it’s “Fusion that hits different.”
Owner Shiva Reddy told CharlotteFive he just moved here a few months ago from California, where it’s more common to mix cuisines.
“We are trying to fuse in some Indian foods with street food, and maybe something like an Indian pizza or Indian burgers. You know, Charlotte doesn’t have many of those places yet.”
Food will be served in takeout boxes, so you can take it to go or take a seat at one of the restaurant’s tables or in the outdoor space out back. There’s a couch for relaxing while you wait, too.
And there’s a bonus: Soma will also have Curry N Cake’s bakery case available, offering pastries, cakes and other individual desserts.
