Two new places to grab lunch are on the way in Fort Mill, with a Potbelly Sandwich Shop opening soon and a Chick-fil-A coming later.
The Chick-fil-A joins a growing list of businesses at the Catawba Ridge Market under construction off Fort Mill Parkway. The first McDonald’s in town limits is part of that more than 45-acre development, The Herald reported this month. Catawba Ridge Market will be anchored by a 61,000-square-foot Harris Teeter grocery store.
Catawba Ridge Market also has a Harris Teeter fuel station and a Fifth Third Bank planned, along with several sites for unnamed tenants, the Herald previously reported. Charlotte developer Aston updated its online listing for Catawba Ridge Market on Friday, showing Chick-fil-A for the first time. Immediate efforts to reach the developer for comment were unsuccessful.
Both McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A were named in a traffic study for the project two years ago, the Herald reported at the time.
Fort Mill only has one Chick-fil-A, just across from Baxter Village. There was another inside Carowinds, but it closed. Indian Land has a Chick-fil-A on Charlotte Highway, but the closest restaurant to Catawba Ridge Market is a Rock Hill location on Cherry Road. It’s about 5 miles away — a mile closer than the Baxter area Chick-fil-A.
This spring, Aston officials gave an opening estimate of spring 2027 for the Harris Teeter at Catawba Ridge Market. The Harris Teeter and strip mall shopping around it are expected to open at the same time, but some outparcels around the project could take a little longer, Aston president and CEO George Dewey said at an April groundbreaking.
McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Fifth Third Bank and the Harris Teeter fuel center are outparcels. And there is space for four more businesses.
Potbelly to open Fort Mill sandwich shop
On another side of town, a new Potbelly sandwich shop is about to open at The Overlook at Gold Hill. The Chicago-based company will open its first South Carolina restaurant on Oct. 14, at 1018 Gold Hill Road, suite 101. The Overlook is the same area that added New York Butcher Shoppe and Wine Bar, Donatos Pizza and other businesses to northern Fort Mill.
The Fort Mill Potbelly will be the fifth sandwich shop for the company in the Charlotte region. There are more than 400 Potbelly locations nationwide.
The menu includes sandwiches, salads and soups. Sandwich options range from prime rib to pizza, Cuban, barbecue, Mediterranean and grilled cheese. Potbelly will open at 10 a.m. daily in Fort Mill, closing at 9 p.m. every day but Sunday (7 p.m.). Potbelly will have delivery, order ahead and catering options.
