50+ women-owned restaurants, bakeries and food vendors to explore in Charlotte

In honor of Women’s History Month, it’s worth noting that Charlotte is blessed with a long list of women-owned restaurants, cafes, food trucks and everything in between.

From that list below, we’ve featured 10 of the Charlotte area’s very best spots wholly owned by women.

Read on to find out if your favorite made our list, and if you don’t see it, let us know at charlottefive@charlottefive.com (We’re not including the city’s fabulous food and drink spots owned by couples — just the ones where women primarily run the show themselves.)

  • 2 Gals Kitchen: West Coast imports Belinda Peetz and Mary Niemeier opened 2 Gals Kitchen in Concord originally as a catering business in 2013, before expanding into a café that has become a neighborhood watering hole buzzing with energy. Peetz and Niemeier have said their goal is to do more than to serve food, but to “love on people” and build community through the restaurant. Especially delicious are the restaurant’s burgers, which have won Cabarrus Burger Madness twice.
  • 300 East: Opened in 1986 and owned by Cathy Coulter, 300 East is one of Charlotte’s few remaining restaurant institutions. The menu includes crowd-pleasers like French onion soup, crab cakes and steak, and it was one of the first local restaurants to make desserts a star attraction. The kitchen is run by Coulter’s daughter, Ashley Boyd, and this mother-daughter dynamic has come to define this Dilworth neighborhood mainstay.

  • The Artisan’s Palate: Chef-owner Christa Csoka’s NoDa mainstay is known for its hybrid space as a restaurant, coffee shop and art gallery all-in-one. Opened in 2019, The Artisan’s Palate has functioned as a true community space, where NoDa visitors and hipsters alike converge to take in art and globally inspired, locally sourced small plates.

  • El Veneno: Chef-owner Kimmy Bazan has given Charlotte a bona fide, cult-hit food truck in El Veneno. Bazan, a Charlotte native whose family is from Mexico, didn’t go to culinary school and instead learned her fearless style of cooking from watching her grandmother and father. Especially drool-worthy on the ever-changing menu are her blackened al pastor tacos.
  • Enat Ethiopian Restaurant: Enat Ethiopian Restaurant, with locations in East Charlotte and in Optimist Hall, specializes in the type of food that excites with booming flavors and wraps you around in a bear hug. “Enat” means “mother” in Amharic, and Tina Tedla’s Ethiopian comfort food — such as her fried sambusa dumplings and hearty doro wat stew — comes straight from the heart, honoring both her mother and Ethiopia.
  • Honeybear Bake Shop: Pastry chef-owner Hannah Neikirk spun a COVID-19-related furlough into gold when she opened Honeybear Bake Shop as a cookie delivery business in 2020. Now Charlotte’s cult-favorite cookie boutique, Honeybear is known for its over-the-top cookies, weekly changing flavors and its ravenous, devoted fan base.

  • Lang Van: Any list of Charlotte’s best women-owned restaurants would be incomplete without Lang Van, Charlotte’s beloved Vietnamese institution. People flock to the Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient for the homey takes on traditional Vietnamese food — especially the pho and the bánh xèo — but come back time and time again for owner Dan Nguyen and her special knack for treating everyone like family.

In the background, the restaurant’s large green sign with white letters reading “LANG VAN” is prominent, along with a neon “OPEN” sign in the window, all set against a clear blue sky.

  • Ms. DiDi’s Caribbean Kitchen: Owned by mother-daughter team Edith Jean Francois and Christina Kedly Bowman, Ms. Didi’s started as an uber-popular food truck in 2019 and opened in 2025 as a brick and mortar in Windsor Park. The cuisine is Haitian comfort food, and on any given day, the menu might include griot (crispy fried pork), djon djon (rice cooked with black mushrooms) and the popular island mac and cheese.

  • Sen Mee Noodle House: Sen Mee Noodle House, the playful Southeast Asian noodle spot in East Charlotte (“Send me Noods” read the staff’s shirts), is owned by four industry veterans, all women: Jenny Zajac, Lin Wilet, Nana Chandara and Sophia Dong. Enjoy Thai-, Laotian- and Vietnamese-inspired noodle dishes and appetizers, including tom kah soup, pad Thai and curries the color of the rainbow.

  • Yassou Greek Cuisine: Co-owners Landa Daglas and Maria Gabriel opened Yassou Greek Cuisine in Myers Park/Eastover in 2025 as more than the typical gyro and salad spot. Authentic Greek and Mediterranean dishes made using traditional home-cooking techniques are the focus here, and on the menu you’ll find everything from spanakopita and dolmades to — of course — baklava for dessert.
At Yassou Greek, you’ll find co-owners Maria Gabriel and Landa Daglas welcoming customers and ensuring they’re well taken care of.
