This Charlotte ice cream shop isn’t flashy but brings plenty of old school charm

This spring and summer, I’m on the hunt for Charlotte’s best ice cream in a series I’m calling “Tristan Scoops Charlotte.” This week’s stop took us into one of the city’s most walkable neighborhoods when we visited Elizabeth Creamery.

This isn’t a flashy destination shop with elaborate branding or wild flavor experiments. Instead, it’s the kind of place that fits perfectly into the rhythm of the neighborhood.

You can grab a slice of pizza nearby at Pizza Baby East, take a walk through the streets of Elizabeth and then end the night with a cone in your hand.

That’s exactly the vibe here. Locals often describe Elizabeth Creamery as a hidden gem — a small, friendly spot with homemade ice cream and a loyal following that keeps people coming back.

Dense ice cream, classic flavors

The first thing you notice about the ice cream at Elizabeth Creamery is the texture.

The shop leans into dense, old-school ice cream — the kind that comes out of the freezer firm and packed with flavor. The scoops are served very cold, which at first makes them feel almost solid, but give it a minute.

As the ice cream warms slightly, the texture softens and the flavor opens up, turning each bite into something smoother and richer that practically melts in your mouth.

It’s a style that rewards patience, and it works.

What we ordered

We started with the Butterfinger ice cream, built on a vanilla base and swirled with chunks of the candy bar. The mix-ins were generous, with plenty of crunchy Butterfinger pieces in every bite, which gave the scoop a nice balance between creamy and crisp texture.

Next up was the Reese’s ice cream, which used a chocolate base with peanut butter swirled throughout. If you’re a chocolate or peanut butter fan, this one hits the sweet spot, rich chocolate flavor with ribbons of peanut butter running through nearly every scoop.

We also tried the pistachio, which might have been the standout of the day. It had a deep, nutty flavor that felt bright, rich, creamy and was clearly made for people who love pistachio.

A perfect neighborhood stop

Part of the charm here is the setting. Elizabeth Creamery sits in a part of Charlotte that invites you to slow down a little. It’s easy to imagine walking over after dinner or grabbing a cone before heading to a nearby show or event.

There’s even a baseball field nearby, and it’s the kind of spot where you could picture a whole youth team showing up after a game, kids still in their uniforms, everyone celebrating with a scoop.

It’s not trying to be the biggest ice cream shop in Charlotte. It’s trying to be a good one for the neighborhood.

And judging by the steady stream of locals who stop by, that approach seems to be working.

The verdict

Elizabeth Creamery isn’t about over-the-top creations or Instagram spectacles. It’s about well-made ice cream, classic flavors and a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere that makes you want to come back again.

On our Tristan Scoops Charlotte tour, it stands out as the kind of place that quietly earns loyal fans, one dense, satisfying scoop at a time.
