Popular Charlotte restaurant chain opens new spot in uptown. Here’s what to know
Modern Mexican fare is on the menu at a new restaurant now open in uptown Charlotte.
Casa Azteca Mexican Grill opened the doors on its newest restaurant Wednesday, April 8, at 129 W. Trade St., most recently home to The King’s Kitchen. The latter, a not-for-profit eatery serving Southern classics, closed abruptly in 2024 after more than 14 years in business, CharlotteFive previously reported.
The spot sat empty for over a year, though real estate developers hinted that “new life” would soon come to the shuttered restaurant space.
Casa Azteca has answered the call, serving up classic tacos, fajitas and quesadillas alongside charcoal-grilled chicken and steaks. Craft cocktails are also on the menu, as are a few homemade desserts for those looking to satisfy their sweet tooth.
The eatery is part of the Azteca and Don Pedro family of Mexican restaurants, which has multiple locations in the Charlotte metro. The newest spot in uptown marks Casa Azteca’s second location; its original restaurant opened in Mooresville last year.
“We took what is essentially that same Mexican flavor and upscaled it to make it that much more interesting and approachable and new for the areas,” Justin Santillan, manager of the Mooresville location, told CharlotteFive at the time.
CharlotteFive reached out to the restaurant for more information and was awaiting a response.
Casa Azteca Mexican Grill-Uptown is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
