‘I found the love of my life’: Charlotte’s Bachelorette recommends reality TV experience
The newest season of “The Bachelorette” just wrapped up with a Georgia woman with Charlotte ties ending up with a proposal on the blissful tropical island of Fiji.
Charity Lawson, 27, who previously was on the 27th season of “The Bachelor,” became the Bachelorette after her elimination in week 8. During the “Women Tell All” special earlier this year, Lawson was asked to be the next Bachelorette and, well, the rest is history.
Her dating pool began with 25 men from around the country, ultimately ending up with two on the season finale, Joey Graziadei and Dotun Olubeko.
Torn between the two suitors, Dotun and Joey met the Lawson family, with Joey passing effortlessly and Dotun having less of an advantage.
However, Charity said there was a lot that viewers didn’t see during filming.
“He had a beautiful conversation with my sister. But, also, both of my parents both giving him their blessing — that also wasn’t shown,” she said.
During the tearful episode, Joey went first to propose to Charity. But before getting down on one knee, Charity turned him away and said goodbye. Then, it was Dotun’s turn, and Charity happily accepted his proposal.
Both jumping out of their skin with joy, Dotun said he couldn’t wait to do everything with Charity and that his experience on “The Bachelorette” was just a taste of their future.
‘The Bachelorette’ in Charlotte
That journey just might begin in Charlotte, where Charity was living before she went to film “The Bachelorette” in March.
Her brother, Nehemiah, lives in Charlotte, where he practices at SouthPark Pediatric Dentistry.
In the last few weeks that Charity has been back, she’s been laying a “little bit of roots” here in North Carolina. One thing she knows about Optimist Hall, so she’s in good standing.
“I’m so dependent on my brother a little bit. I’ll be like, ‘Can you give me recs,’ and obviously we know Kylee (Russell) — she’s there, so when I am there, we go and do things together,” Charity said.
As for putting roots in one spot, Charity said Charlotte could be an option later on. For now, she’s about join the next season of “Dancing With The Stars,” so she and Dotun will be out in Los Angeles filming for a while.
“It could be Charlotte — we’ll see. I’ll have to bring him down there to visit,” she said in regards to moving back to the Queen City.
‘I found the love of my life’
Dating amid a sea of options can be hard, but Charity said she had fun with it and never got mixed up with who was who, because everyone had such different personalities.
Overall, Charity said her reality TV experience was overwhelming in the sense of being the center of attention and addressing a room full of men — a bit “intimidating,” she described. But it also allowed her to step into her confidence and grow.
“I found the love of my life. I can say, and fully encourage anyone who wants a growth experience, that this is the one for you. It 100% without a doubt works,” she said.
