‘Bachelorette’ Week 5 recap: Did Jenn give Marcus a rose after ex’s surprise visit?
It’s that time of the week again: Bachelorette Mondays featuring a Raleigh veteran who’s made quite the impression on ABC’s hit reality dating show.
Marcus Shoberg is among the remaining dozen men still building a connection with 26-year-old Jenn Tran. But last week, their journey got a bit rocky when she got a shocking surprise visit from her ex-boyfriend who wanted a second shot at a happily-ever-after.
So what happened after last week’s cliffhanger episode ending? Here’s a recap of what you missed.
‘Now or never’
Just hours before the rose ceremony, Jenn came face-to-face with her ex, Matt, who took a 24-hour trip to New Zealand to see if he could stick rekindle their romance during the rest of the season. This really rubbed a lot of the guys the wrong way.
“To think that someone will have an unfair advantage of, like, having a history with her… It’s like, how do you even compete with that?” Marcus said in a private interview after Jenn told the guys about Matt coming to profess his love for her.
But when Jenn and Matt got a chance to chat again that night during the cocktail party, she ended up sending him home for good.
“You know, Matt told me today that he is in love with me, and that’s something that I’ve never heard before. Hearing it from him, you know, it was all the right things, but said by the wrong guy. Looking around this room, I know that the right guy is here,” she told the guys after her ex apologized to the group.
“I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again, like, my future is in this room. Like, my husband is in this room.”
Who got eliminated in the first rose ceremony?
Along with Sam N. who got sent home during last week’s group date, here’s who else did not receive a rose from Jenn:
John
Thomas N.
‘Love is messy’
Jenn had adventurous one-on-one dates with Jonathon — a helicopter ride — and Grant — a horseback riding date.
But Marcus did have a bit of an adventure during a lighthearted, laugh-filled group date at a sheep farm. He got some valuable alone time with her, too.
But the day ended on an emotional note when Austin decided to leave, which left Jenn questioning everything and wondering if any of the other guys were having doubts.
“Maybe I’m not enough for Marcus. Maybe I’m not enough for Devin. Maybe I’m not enough for Sam,” she shared to producers in a private interview.
Though she was feeling a bit insecure about her remaining relationships, many of the guys quickly reassured her once she opened up, including Marcus.
“When I think of someone I can rely on, it’s always you,” she told him. “I always look forward to every conversation that we have and every moment we have together and I just want you to know that.”
After hearing that he can make her feel better when she’s down, Marcus admitted that he feels the same way.
“I know it’s tough to watch someone that you, like, care about kind of going through a hard time but the fact that I get to be part of that reason why some of those negative emotions turn back into positive emotions is like… That’s an awesome feeling,” he said after their conversation to producers.
Did Marcus get a rose from Jenn?
Because of how much the guys showed up for Jenn during a time when she was her most vulnerable, she felt confident enough in her feelings to cancel the cocktail party before the rose ceremony.
To no surprise, Marcus got a rose and will continue building his connection with Jenn.
Who got eliminated during the second rose ceremony?.
Of the 8 remaining men, Dylan did not receive a rose from Jenn and went home.
