Today’s headlines: Uptown museums come together in uncommon partnership
For the first time since the Levine Center for the Arts uptown was finished in 2010, leaders of Mint Museum, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture and Blumenthal Performing Arts shared the same stage Monday morning at the Wells Fargo Auditorium at the Knight Theater.
But first, they took a selfie.

They were there to announce a unique partnership between the uptown institutions, one meant to leverage the strength of each one to improve the whole group. The partnership is enabled by a $250,000 grant from the Thrive Fund, and Charlotte’s Orbital Socket will lead the marketing effort.
What does this mean for you? For starters:
– Free tours led by docents during lunchtime the third Thursday of each month starting early next year.
– One $20 ticket that would provide admission to all three museums over a 48-hour period.
– A “community celebration” at the Levine Center for the Arts May 21, 2016.
– More collaboration between the uptown museums and Blumenthal.
CITY BUS CRASH: One person was killed and 16 people were injured yesterday when a bus collided with a truck and a car in uptown. As of late Monday night, CMPD hadn’t said what caused the crash or named the drivers, the person who died and those injured.

It was the second death involving a CATS bus in less than a week. On Sunday, 74-year-old Charles Adkins died from injuries he sustained after his bike was hit by a bus on Statesville Road last week.
WELCOME TO CHARLOTTE, JARED: In an effort to fill the void of injured defensive end Charles Johnson, the Carolina Panthers traded a future sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for defensive end Jared Allen. Allen has 134 career sacks, the most among active players and ninth all-time in NFL history.

SHOW ME THE MONEY: Dan Clodfelter is being shown more of it. Through the first three weeks of September, Mayor Stache has out-raised Jennifer Roberts nearly 3-1. Clodfelter raised $75,000 this month with help from prominent business leaders and from a personal $20,000 loan. Roberts raised just over $27,000 this month.
But since she started running over a year ago, she has raised $395,000 to Clodfelter’s $345,000.
TRAFFIC MALFUNCTION: If you got caught in traffic before the Janet Jackson concert Sept. 18 at PNC Music Pavillion, here’s the official explanation: There weren’t enough parking spaces. Some of the 18,500 fans never made it inside and many were late after sitting in traffic. Other factors: No opening act, an early start time (8:30 p.m.), and several people needed medical assistance, causing traffic to stop to allow ambulances and fire trucks in.
