Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter out-raised Jennifer Roberts nearly 3-1 during the first three weeks of September, according to new reports filed Monday.

Clodfelter raised $75,000 this month with help from prominent business leaders and from a personal $20,000 loan.

Roberts raised just over $27,000 this month.

But since she started running over a year ago, she has raised $395,000 to Clodfelter’s $345,000.

The two face off in an Oct. 6 runoff with the winner facing Republican Edwin Peacock in November.

Roberts had just over $35,000 on hand last week. Clodfelter had more than $58,000.

The money will help each make last-minute appeals – and get their voters to the polls – for votes in what’s expected to be a very low turnout election.

Clodfelter’s September donors included NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick, CarolinasHealthCare CEO Michael Tarwater and businessman Cameron Harris and his wife Dee Dee.

Former investment banker Erskine Bowles gave him $1,000. His wife Crandall Bowles gave Roberts $2,500.

Roberts also got money from Washington pollster Celinda Lake and Raleigh’s Franklin Freeman, an adviser to three Democratic governors.
