Untappd’s Charlotte beer festival has been canceled
After rescheduling the Untappd Beer Festival at Bank of America Stadium from May 2020 to April 24, 2021, the organizers canceled the festival.
“Due to the ongoing pandemic, we have made the unfortunate but necessary decision to further postpone the 2nd Annual Untappd Beer Festival,” organizers sent in an email to CharlotteFive. “We are optimistic we will be able to host this highly anticipated event at Bank of America Stadium and look forward to announcing a new date in the near future.”
Ticketholders have been refunded.
In August when the the festival organizers announced the new, now-canceled date, they stated they would continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and follow guidelines from the CDC and local health officials. More than 130 breweries were scheduled to be represented at the event.
Untappd has hosted a virtual beer tastings, which it called “highly successful” in a statement on the Panthers’ website. There is a March Madness-themed Brewery Madness bracket happening between now and April 5.
Untappd stated last year that it would host additional live festivals in new locations across the U.S. and abroad. Dates would be announced “when it is safe and practical to do so,” the statement read.
“Though it truly disappoints us to have to push our much anticipated Charlotte festival out nearly a year, the health and safety of our attendees and brewer partners comes above all else,” Talia Spera, Vice President of Festivals and Live Events at Untappd, stated in August. “We look forward to bringing beer fans and breweries together once again in an environment that is fun, engaging, and safe for all those who attend.”
The 2019 Untappd was plagued with long lines, storms which delayed the festival and issues getting beer to the vendors as well as tasting glasses to attendees. Some called it the Fyre Festival of Charlotte.
