Every year on April 22, we gather to celebrate nature, environmental conservation and the planet we call home. What better way to acknowledge the special day than by getting out and attending one of these 11 Charlotte events for Earth-lovers of all ages?

Wednesday

Alchemy: Food + Flix: “Fantastic Fungi”

Location: 2517 Distribution St, Charlotte, NC 28203

Description: Hosted in partnership with the Charlotte Film Society, guests can attend a special screening of the documentary “Fantastic Fungi.”

When: 6 p.m., doors open at 5 p.m.

Price: $5 per person

Alchemy: A Shroom Soirée

Location: 2517 Distribution St, Charlotte, NC 28203

Description: A four-course dinner by chef Ken Aponte complete with wine pairings that will showcase “the taste, variety and magic of mushrooms.”

When: 6 p.m.

Ballantyne Movie Night: Earth Day Edition

Location: 11611 N Community House Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277

Description: Gather with the rest of the Charlotte community for a sunset screening of Disney Pixar’s “Wall-E” at Ballantyne’s Backyard. Free parking is available. Outside food is not permitted at this event, but local food and beverage vendors will be available.

When: Ballantyne’s Backyard opens at 5 p.m., screening begins at sunset

Price: $5 per person

Earth Day at the Anne Springs Close Greenway — Day 1

Location: 2573 Lake Haigler Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29715

Description: Join in on environmental fun with Anne Springs Close Greenway’s 3-day Earth Day event. At this event, live music will take place outdoors. Blair Braverman, an author and experienced dog-sledder, will be the featured guest for the Greenway Speaker Series at 6:30 p.m.. The Gateway Canteen will be serving a full menu.

When: Live music at 5 p.m., Greenway Speaker Series begins at 6:30 p.m.

Price: $23 per person

Free Shredding & Recycling at Ballantyne’s Backyard

Description: Take part in this free, eco-conscious event by bringing documents in need of shredding to Ballantyne’s Backyard.

When: 7 a.m. to noon

Description: A wide variety of events fill the day with eco-friendly art exhibitions, parades, keynote speakers and live music.

Discovery Place Nature: Earth Day 2022

Location: 1658 Sterling Rd, Charlotte, NC 28209

Description: All ages are welcome to take part in both Indoor and outdoor activities that aim to “explore the relationships between humans, animals, plants and the rest of nature.”

When: April 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Price: Included in museum admission: $8 adults and children over 2; free for children under 2 and members

Location: Multiple locations

Description: Join in on environmental fun with Anne Springs Close Greenway’s 3-day Earth Day event. During Day 2, the greenway will offer a variety of family friendly activities such as hiking, kayaking, yoga for kids, archery lessons, a petting zoo, several animal presentations, a photography and recycled art contest, and even a ticketed campout.

When: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Price: Pricing varies based on activity

The Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill is hosting its 25th Earth Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Other events are scheduled in York and Lancaster County as well.

Earth Day Plant Swap

Location: 3306-C N. Davidson St, Charlotte, NC 28205

Description: This Verde Tribe event will allow participants to bring their own plants to swap with other participants at at Salud Cerveceria. Proceeds from this event will go to local charity efforts and a free “re-potting” station will be provided.

When: April 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Price: $5 per person
