Charlotte’s newest nightclub Bazal is officially open — here’s how to get in

When news of the opening of Bazal Gallery and Nightclub broke, many Charlotteans were fascinated by the unique and intriguing concept by club owner, Noi Vong. A venue at the crossroads of art and nightlife was something we had never seen before — up until now.

With several events such as soft openings, media previews and private gatherings already taking place at the venue, night owls across the city are eager to get a closer look at what lies beyond the gallery’s front doors now that the establishment is officially open.

What some don’t know, however, is that there’s one key element to Bazal that the staff at the club is adamant in protecting — what Vong describes simply as “the vibe.”

Anyone can pay a membership fee, but not everyone can measure up to the standards that the grand establishment requires of its patrons. An art gallery sits on the top floor of the building, above the venue’s club, and by way of a strict dress code, aspiring party-goers will be expected to be as artful as their surroundings are. After all, fashion itself is an art form.

According to Vong, the club aims to attract patrons who put a considerable amount of effort into their wardrobes. To him, dream patrons take pride in how their looks are executed.

“Don’t just roll out of bed in sandals and shorts and expect to get into a red carpet place,” Vong told CharlotteFive in an interview. “It’s a place that’s going to challenge you, like, ‘Hey, elevate your game. Step it up.”

And Bazal’s strict dress code certainly reflects Vong’s vision. According to the club’s VIP terms and conditions, attire that is “sexy, chic, sophisticated, classy and tasteful” is a must.

“The art and music at Bazal … is a high-quality experience for those who like to dress up in style,” the venue’s site states. “This atmosphere helps you feel like part of something special, no matter what your mood may be.”

Here’s what the dress code policy discourages guests from wearing if they plan on stopping by Bazal Gallery and Nightclub:

Steer clear of baggy clothes or athletic gear

There’s a time and place for popular fashion trends like loose-fitting streetwear and thrifted finds — but not at Bazal. Patrons are encouraged to wear jeans or slacks that “fit appropriately” and are absent of any rips and holes.

Ditch the T-shirts

Wearing a tee to the club is the preferred route for many, especially if dancing the night away is in the plan for the evening. However, you may not even get the chance to see the inside of the club if you show up in a T-shirt. Bazal encourages patrons to avoid wearing T-shirts and to try a collared shirt instead.

Nightclub vs. beach club

It goes without saying that patrons wearing hats, shorts and flip flops will undoubtedly be turned away at the door. The dress code policy strictly prohibits these items, no matter what label they are from.

If the shoe fits …

Among the list of prohibited wardrobe items at Bazal are men’s sandals, backless women’s sandals, sneakers, steel-toed shoes and work boots.

Membership

Once guests arrive, they’ll be greeted by staff who will check their access to the club. If you aren’t already a member at Bazal, you can sign up for a membership at the venue and pay any applicable charges in person.

Members pay a one-time, annual fee of $25, which grants them access to the gallery and club, special events, promotions, cocktail tastings, discounted venue rental rates and the ability to beat the line through a priority entrance.
