New uptown tower ‘a building designed for Charlotte’s creative class.’ And other development news

The newest office product hitting the market in uptown has a fresh website with more details about its upcoming renovation: 300 South Brevard.

“A building designed for Charlotte’s creative class.” That’s how new owner Stream Realty Partners is pitching the building, which formerly housed AT&T workers and was known as the AT&T Plaza. An upcoming renovation will add more tenant amenities and retail space, and will refresh the building’s lobbies, bathrooms and exterior.

“By mid-2016, 300 South Brevard will be a modern office building perfectly suited for today’s creative worker,” Stream wrote.

Dallas-based Stream bought the building for $45.5 million from its previous owner, a partnership of Childress Klein and Norfolk Southern. The 360,000-square-foot building will be the largest block of contiguous office space on the market uptown, a potential draw for a corporate headquarters tenant or other big users.

The 15-story building was originally constructed in 1994. Architectural firm Ai Design Group is working on the project with Stream.

One less development in Charlotte

Crescent Communities said “Nah, we’re good” about a proposed development in NoDa. It withdrew plans that would have turned the 25-acre site at Craighead Road and North Davidson Street into 450 residential units and retail.

“Unfortunately, during due diligence Crescent determined that this specific property was not the right fit for this proposed development plan,” spokeswoman Heather Tamol told the Observer.

Don’t worry, though. Crescent still has a development in the works a few blocks away — a mixed-use development with 350 apartments, a hotel and possibly a boutique grocer at 36th Street.

DukBone Brewing making moves

The “brewery-in-planning” hired a head brewer in Alex Shoenthal and is working to secure a Charlotte location, according to the Charlotte Business Journal. The brewery is considering South End, NoDa and the N.C. Music Factory.
