Here’s what’s coming up in Charlotte’s visual arts
Who to meet
Get to know the artists on view in “Seeking Silence” at SOZO Gallery. On Jan. 11 from 10:30 a.m. - noon, Marisa Pascucci will lead a panel discussion with exhibiting artists Thomas Swanston, Gail Foster, Scott Gardner, Eloise Gamble and Denny Gerwin. Work on view in this exhibition expresses themes of internal reflection, mindfulness and respite. Admission is free.
Where to go
Go to the Cabarrus Arts Council for Family Day on Jan. 11 from 1-4 p.m. Children will be able to make crafts, tour the galleries and go on a scavenger hunt. The exhibition on view, Clay: Woodier NC, consists of pottery by artists from the Seagrove community. Visitors are encouraged to attend a performance of The Ugly Duckling by Opera Xpress at 3 p.m. (free, reservation required). Family Day is free and ideal for preschool through elementary school children.
What to do
Attend the first opening of the year at Goodyear Arts on Jan. 10 from 6-9 p.m. “Making Arrangements” is a group exhibition featuring work by Amy Bagwell, Corey Pemberton, Dennissa Young, Garrett Alan Fees, Grace Stott, Haley Elizabeth Hughes, Kassiane Patselas, Kaye Blegvad, Lora Mathis, Lucy Gillis, Marissa Paternoster, Sami Cronk, Taylor Lee and William Mize.
Curator Rebecca Henderson wanted to approach this exhibition as a “temporal bouquet,” in which work on view toes the line between the robust blossom of tantalizing expression and the wilting banality of daily living.
