Here’s what’s coming up in Charlotte’s visual arts
What to do
You have two chances to attend an event at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. First, on March 19, it will screen “Frey: Part 1-The Architectural Envoy” as part of its Modernism and Film series. The film follows Swiss-born architect Albert Frey as he brings Corbusian-influenced modernism to the United States. Tickets are $10 to the public and $8 for museum members. The screening begins at 7 p.m. after a 6 p.m. reception.
The second event is the museum’s free monthly program, Bechtler By Night, which takes place from 5-9 p.m. on March 20 and includes free admission to the galleries.
Where to go
Head to the McColl Center for Art + Innovation on March 21 for Open Studio Saturday. This free event allows the public access to artists working in its studios from noon-4 p.m. All artists-in-residence will be in attendance in their studios: Franco Fasoli, Liz Nielsen, Azita Moradkhani, Holly Keogh, Maya Gurantz and Andrew Wilson. Paul Farmer and Blaine Hurdle will also be leading hands-on experiences for guests.
Who to meet
Get to know Shae Bishop during his presentation with the Delhom Service League, the ceramics affiliate of The Mint Museum, on March 18. Bishop is a ceramic and mixed media artist who uses clay tiles and cloth to make unexpected sculptural garments.
Originally from Louisville, Ky., he is now based near Penland, NC. The Friends of the Mint, another Mint affiliate, is partnering with the Delhom Service League to make this event free for all. His program “tex(TILE)” will begin at 6 p.m. in the Van Every Auditorium at the Mint Museum Randolph.
