Charlotte-area Cook Out earns ‘B’ for bugs in the kitchen: Sanitation scores (Aug. 2)

An Charlotte-area Cook Out received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of insects and food debris in the kitchen.

▪ Cook Out, located at 10645 Park Road in Pineville, received a score of 88.5% during its July 29 inspection.

Health department inspectors dinged the restaurant after finding “several fruit flies” near a prep refrigerator and compartment sink, county documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Food dumped in the handwashing sink

  • Chicken, bacon, cheese and ground beef stored above required temperatures

  • Accumulation of food debris and soil throughout kitchen, including on shelves throughout and under cooking equipment

  • Glass cleaner stored over prep table

This is the restaurant’s first “B” grade.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score less than 70%.
