Charlotte restaurant gets ‘B’ grade for flies & gnats on food during health inspection
An east Charlotte restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of insects in the kitchen and on food.
▪ El Carbonero, 4400 Central Ave., received a score of 87.5 during its July 19 inspection.
Health department inspectors dinged the restaurant after finding “several gnats and flies in the kitchen area,” a repeat violation, county documents show.
Inspectors also discovered onions with gnats on them, according to county documents.
Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:
Raw beef stored over plantains and raw shrimp stored over cooked chicken
Dirty pan washed without being soaked in sanitizer
Rice stored on the floor
Shelves held up by string and plastic wrap
Walls in need of cleaning
This is the restaurant’s first “B” grade.
According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
