Charlotte restaurant gets ‘B’ grade for broken custard machine, insects, dirty dishes

An north Charlotte restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of insects and dirty dishes.

▪ Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, 3811 Corning Pl., received a score of 88 during its June 11 inspection.

Health department inspectors dinged the restaurant after finding “flying pests” throughout the kitchen, a repeat violation, county documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Food and cloths in handwashing sink

  • Food debris on dishes

  • Grilled onions and sliced cheese stored above required temperatures

  • Standing water in cooler

  • Custard machine broken

  • Build up behind silver hands on soda machine

This is the restaurant’s second “B” grade. The first one was in in April 2022.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
