In the world of home improvement, organizers of the Southern Ideal Home Show say they try to replicate the Internet in a bricks and mortar setting.

This year’s show, running Friday through Sunday, will feature not only more than 200 companies exhibiting their hottest products for home, garden and entertaining, but also advice from experts.

“We’ve taken the guesswork and the legwork out of home improvement,” says Show Manager Mardee Woodward.

Among the pros on hand:

▪ Pete Nelson, star of Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters,” who will show how to design and build your own safe treehouse. His Treehouse Point retreat in Fall City, Wash., rents six luxury treehouses to guests.

▪ Longtime Charlotte cooking instructor and writer Heidi Billotto will teach a class on local honey.

▪ Chef Eric Litaker of Dogwood Southern Table will speak on Southern seafood.

▪ Greg Collier of The Yolk, Rock Hill, will present “The Best of Breakfast.”

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) returns to the show with their pavilion and experts ready to offer advice on home modeling projects from a single room to an entire house.

Woodward advises attendees to the show with floor plans, magazine tear-outs, questions and a camera – sort of an on-the-spot Internet bookmark when you see something that sparks an idea you want to save. Emily Hedrick, correspondent
