Charlotte’s Gantt Center celebrates MLK Day with music, arts and more

The Gantt Center hosted a community and commemoration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a full day of programs and activities for all ages. 
Visitors were able to create art, enjoy live music, participate in spoken-word activities and discussions about current social issues.

The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Ats + Culture hosted a free all-day celebration of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday.

The event included screenings of “Our Friend Martin,” musical and poetry performances, art workshops and more.

The Gantt Center, named for former Charlotte mayor Harvey Gantt, was founded in 1974. Its mission is “to present, preserve and celebrate excellence in the art, history and culture of African-Americans and those of African descent through visual and literary arts, dance, music, film, educational programs, theatre productions and community outreach.”
