Two children died in a house fire in Denver Sunday night, officials said.

The family, which included at least three children, was sleeping when the fire started at about 8:45 p.m., officials told WSOC, The Charlotte Observer’s news partner. A 4-year-old and 6-year-old died, deputies said.

An electrical issue in the single-story home triggered the accidental fire and caused “major damage,” said Amy McCauley, Catawba County’s communications director.

The house on the 5000 block of Grassy Creek Road sits west of Lake Norman near the Lincoln-Catawba county line.

“Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we are not releasing additional information about the individuals involved,” McCauley said.
