Ballantyne USPS worker stole and sold more than 200 checks from P.O. boxes

A 28-year-old postal worker at the Ballantyne USPS stole more than 200 checks worth nearly $2 million out of post office boxes, according to court documents. Then he sold them.

Dontavis Romario Truesdale will spend 27 months in prison and must pay more than $200,000 in restitution, District Judge Kenneth D. Bell ruled Tuesday, according to court documents in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.

Truesdale was also a Novant Health insurance specialist who is about to graduate with a degree in information technology from an online university, according to court documents.

From November 2022 to April 2023, he stole the checks as they came into the USPS location on Ballantyne Commons Parkway, according to court documents.
