Moss' big game helps Raiders upend Lake Norman
SOFTBALL
North Iredell 8, Lake Norman 7
MOORESVILLE - Kynlie Moss homered twice and drove in five runs Tuesday night as North Iredell beat Lake Norman 8-7 in North Piedmont Conference softball action.
Lake Norman seized a 7-5 lead thanks to its three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Raiders (9-6, 3-4) responded, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh and holding the Wildcats (10-8, 4-3) scoreless in the bottom half.
Moss had three hits altogether. She earned the pitching win as well, striking out eight, walking three and scattering seven hits. Only three of the runs scored against her were earned.
Barrett Williams went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Chelsea Patton recorded a triple.
Avery Evans went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Lake Norman. Olivia Wolf hit a solo home run. Ava Tilley and Colbie Harmon each doubled and drove in one run.
North Iredell's win avenged a 6-4, 12-inning loss to the Wildcats earlier this season.
BASEBALL
South Iredell 10, North Iredell 3
TROUTMAN - South Iredell erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday night to pull ahead en route to a 10-3 North Piedmont Conference baseball win over North Iredell.
Eli Beekley went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Vikings (9-9, 5-2).
Milo Peck recorded a hit and two RBIs for South Iredell.
Dylan Hughesman finished with two hits, including a double, and he drove in a run.
Blake McDowell and Connor Huwe each supplied one hit and one RBI in the victory.
Four South Iredell pitchers combined to hold the Raiders to two hits and three walks while striking out 13. Luke Snell fanned seven of the 15 batters he faced over four innings of work.
No individual stats for North Iredell (4-14, 0-7) were available.
The teams meet again Friday at North Iredell.
West Iredell 7, Maiden 2
A five-run third inning ended a scoreless affair, and West Iredell proceeded to beat Maiden 7-2 in Tuesday night's Western Foothills Athletic Conference game.
Austin Arrowood doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Warriors (5-11, 3-8).
Damien Sharpe doubled and picked up a pair of RBIs in the win. Owen Love finished 2-for-4 with a double.
Lane Sharpe went the distance on the mound for the pitching win. He struck out three and walked only two while scattering six hits over seven innings.
