Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Wall to be unveiled Saturday
The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame will mark a milestone moment Saturday, May 9, as it unveils its new, permanent "Wall of Fame" exhibit during a special ceremony at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center.
The event is scheduled for Saturday in the arena's main lobby at 4759 NC 49, Concord. Guests are invited to arrive at 2:30 p.m., with the ceremony beginning promptly at 3 p.m.
Organizers say the celebration represents years of effort to create a lasting tribute to the county's rich athletic heritage.
"This is more than just a ceremony - it's the realization of a vision to honor the people, teams and supporters who have shaped sports in Cabarrus County," members of the Hall of Fame committee said in a statement.
"This is something the community can be proud of for many years to come," said EZ Smith III, chairman of the hall.
The program will include a brief history of the organization, along with introductions of its officers, committee members, advisory board and affiliated supporters. In addition to recognizing Hall of Fame contributors, the ceremony will highlight those who have helped bring the project to fruition, including lifetime, legend, legacy and corporate sponsors, as well as donors and community supporters.
At the center of the event will be the unveiling of the Wall of Fame exhibit, a permanent installation designed to celebrate the achievements, sportsmanship and community spirit that define athletics in Cabarrus County.
The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame encourages guests to learn more about honorees and their accomplishments by visiting its website at www.cabarrussportshof.com, where biographies and additional information are available.
The ceremony is expected to draw athletes, coaches, supporters and community members from across the region, all gathering to honor the past while establishing a lasting legacy for future generations.
The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 2011 and added new members each year until the COVID pandemic. The Hall was revived in 2025 and inducted a large class in December 2025.
Smith and the Hall of Fame committee gained the Cabarrus County Commissioners' support to permanently place the Hall of Fame at the arena, where the public can view the inductees and their accomplishments. The committee raised money through community members, organizations and businesses to pay for the display.
